A shame, actually- this seemed to have quite a bit of potential. I gues it means Platinum will have more time to focus on other projects, at least

On the other hand, that protaganist seems like a prime generic, annoying twat.... so maybe it's not all bad.

Damn, Microsoft kills off yet another RPG-type game.
This is why I don't take my Xbox One seriously at all. It's just laying there not connected to anything. Lol.

So there goes the one Xbox One exclusive I was looking forward to getting. Now my Xbox feels even more like a wasted purchase.

maybe Microsoft realized that it will be one of those games.. so they pulled the plug before then..

"worst games of the year" is a list you don't want your exclusive games to be on..

also the last few games by Platinum Games were not so great.. pretty sure i saw 2 of their games on the worst/dissapointing games of 2016..

Xbox one doesn't have a lot of third party exclusives.. not to mention some of them are not every good.

Honestly as a huge fan of Platinum games, this really saddens me, and also makes me realize that maybe it's time to sell my Xbox one and just get a Nintendo Switch with the money, because clearly they have no interest in making really out there games anymore.

Xbox One is definitely lacking in the single player, story-driven game department so I definitely would have picked this up.

From what I understand, the game wasn't running well, so Platinum wanted to cut graphics for performance and Microsoft kept refusing them. There were also some delays probably due to optimization issues.

Still sucks though. The only reason I had for ever considering an Xboner is gone forever. At least there's still Nier Automata and maybe that Granblue Fantasy game.

One less reason for me to bother with Xbox One in 2017.

It seems that the game not running was one of the issues. Platinum wanted to scale down some of the graphics and features, Microsoft added more demands that countered the desire to scale down. The other issue was straight-up creative conflicts. This was prone to happen when Microsoft hired a Japanese team to produce a game. Microsoft needs Japanese content to keep their system afloat; but, alas, they're throwing it away and into the wind on this one.

I really have no reason to keep my Xbox One any longer other than "We Happy Few" that's still in an Alpha/Early Access stage.

Microsoft's always been poor at handling Japanese devs from what I've read. A lot of the teams they courted to make exclusive content back in the 360 days didn't get along with them at all afaik.

Though honestly, as a diehard Platinum fanboy, maybe it's better Scalebound was cancelled... it certainly looked rough from the footage they showed off the last time.

Yeah, that's always been the case. They tried to bring in some Japanese talent throughout the 360 era and anything Microsoft got involved in for first-party "approval" was pretty much left in ruin.

Perhaps you're right, though. Microsoft's continued requests to add more features, more abilities, and more options caused Platinum to scale down graphically and kept things ridiculously basic. Platinum has been known to do a significantly better job with their games than this. At the same time, it's really discouraging as it was one of the games I was hoping to come out on the XB1.

I really hope this is just down to MS being dicks and not a sign of problems at Platinum...... I would genuinely be depressed if they went down.
I wonder though- does MS own the IP or Platnum? Is it worth holding out hope for a PS4 version? Or maybe Nintendo picking it up for Switch?

Microsoft owns the IP for Scalebound. This is why they were putting so much pressure on Platinum to "do as they're told" versus what was possible. There's next to zero chance of Microsoft selling the IP licenses to Sony or Nintendo, unfortunately.

Well, fuck. I guess it's just better for Platinum to just wash their hands of them.
