So I was getting the mail and I noticed a mail that had my name on it. I opened it and it states that I have a petit juror summons next month. I was just wonder if anyone on CR has been to a juror summons before. What was it like for you?

I won't say I am nervous because it hasn't happened yet but I am curious. I wonder if I'll be called on or not. This was really unexpected.

What do you think?

I've done it a few times. Most times, you sit around in a waiting room for a couple of hours, then all the juries get filled, and you're free to go.
The last time I was called (last October), I actually sat on a jury. It was a one day domestic case, pretty open and shut, actually. The trial only took about 45 minutes, but it was about 2.5 hours to seat the jury. More tedious than anything.

I don't know what a petit juror summons is. Is that the one where you call in the night before to see if you have to serve?

If you end up going, bring something to read and a bottle of water.

Make sure to do it. If you don't some other idiot might make a bad decision. I just went there, sat around, then the jurors got filled and I could go.

My guess a petit juror summons is similar to a regular juror summons.

Petit jury is the same as trial jury.

Be sure to follow the directions exactly. Bureaucracy knows nothing that doesn't happen to form.

I got a letter for it. But by law you have to fill out the survey.

I'm exempt from jury duty because I know of this one power jurors have that judges and lawyers don't want you to know about. So if you basically say that you know about so and so power you're basically exempt from serving on a jury.

Sheesh that first sentence sounded clickbaity.

I'm sure you still have to do everything leading up to the jury election process, but yeah, you can just say you know about it and you'll probably be exempted.

Anyways, I'm not a legal expert so I can't talk about why jurors who know about it are disallowed, but yeah, it's a thing that exists and you're not supposed to talk about.

Never been summoned for jury duty or anything like that, but I have been called for being a witness with having arrested homeless people shooting up heroin in a mall bathroom.

Petit just means petty. Its just a fancy name for a regular juror hearing a standard criminal/civil case. As opposed to a grand juror.

You need to hit level 5 before you rank up to a grand juror ;p

I've never been summoned to one yet.

Seems interesting tho.

The experience ranks right up there with watching paint dry.'

Never been summoned myself. I'm sure it'll probably happen one day though.
