Ah, its wonderful to see this art style again! Watched Ristorante Paradiso earlier last year. Didn't imagine I would see another of Natsume Ono's work so soon. Though unlike the serene Ristorante, this looks to be a mystery show.

Digging the vibes and atmosphere of the first episode. Among the starts of non-sequels, this is my favorite. Looks like only a few among the Inspection Department are taking their duties seriously. Given the apparent peace, I guess it could be understandable. Jean's already growing on me. I particularly like how meticulous yet relaxed (or composed might be a better word) he is. He also has stalker; who reminds me a bit of Yuri Plisetsky. I wonder who that Chief sent to monitor him.

you know

my problem with this show is the smoking....since our world is changing when it comes to ...smoking.
Russia is even about to ban smoking from its younger citizens.

And when his name was pronounced... Jean as in gene, I went should it be szohn or [ʒɑ̃] since he is a boy

Oh well enough nitpicking, I like the art, character style and animation. The story is still coming together ,not much back story about this world is introduced

but I was actually getting bored.
I have a feeling he is about to be framed

Until this translation, his name appears to have been generally rendered as "Gene." It's even what the file name for his character on the official website uses. That would be much better.

ACCA: 13th Ward Observation Department EP1 Jean the Cigarette-Peddler”

Looks Good ! Jean Otus is the 2nd in charge at the Acca Inspection which is going to be closed as there are no irregulaties until he finds some in one state / so the agency is sabed but to an intense audit of the states ordered by Grossular who wanted it shut down but now has Jean being watched. Jean likes to smoke cigarettes which are expensive ans supposed to be smoked only in certain areas!

The Council some who like Jean arent sure what is going on

Grossular ??

I am a non-smoker and dont like 2nd hand smoke / but there are good people who do smoke !

BTW I grew up on older anime and smoking was prevelant

But when Eric Garner was choked for selling non-taxed smokes was very wrong, And I am not a fan of taxing something instead of treating the problem.

In a way this anime kinda ints that out!

Fave scene from this first step might have to be the bar scene at the end. Really liked the animation when he was searching for the lighter

You guys didn't believe me when I said this show was popular in Japan.
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2017-01-15/treat-your-valentine-to-mr-osomatsu-parfait-anime-cakes/.110937

The line of character cakes announced its latest addition on Wednesday: Joker Game. The lineup also includes ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept., Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru, and Tsukiuta. THE ANIMATION character cakes.

Unpopular shows don't get cakes.

Except for Osomatsu-san, everything mentioned in that article is really good. So, good things do get popular. (And the article didn't mention it, but I'm sure someone, somewhere, is doing something with YOI. And there's Rose of Versailles chocolates at high-end department stores, too.)

Must admit this is growing on me. Not sure and 13 areas in just six months I think, guessing some places will take time as the map some areas are huge and each place might have something different in them going on illegal wise.

This and Joker Game are popular as pretty-boy shows. And pretty-boy shows are the most popular thing now.

Someone just needs to get audiences outside of Japan who want pretty boys to realize that anime has really great pretty boys.

Episode 2

Some history is revealed about Dowa as there was a coup that resulted in 13 territories getting self autonomy. So it turns out that Jean is also the landlord of the complex he lives at in addition to being an inspector. His next job is to inspect a district where everything is supersized with Nino, and Nino is questioning why he continues to be an inspector despite not liking his job. So after Jumoku, it's onto the next district. I'm still not sure what to think about this show, but certainly the setup and setting are interesting, but so far it has lacked anything that stands out.

Ah more info dump about the world that the series takes place in...

I think it's worth it though considering how important the social structure is with its complex society. Groshular is starting to intrigue me as a character, he just seems pretty interesting so far with his role in the show. Pretty chill episode. Jean's role as an inspector feels pretty chill like an everyman.

Nino is pretty smooth character but don't underestimate Jean he knows what is going on around him at all times with all districts. He keeps a low profile but I think during audits Jean gets all information even if systems crash he goes in and helps with back up systems to get all the information he needs.

Welp, at least Jean's able to get his lighter back. And now, his sister's gain an admirer. XD

And for a sec there, thought there was a disproportion in terms of character scale when I saw this scene.... 'Least, until the two started craning their necks real high while on salute, lol.

So far, the series still holds some interest, and I can already see what murky waters Jean will get himself into. Just need to see the next episode, before I can fully surmise if this is worth keeping.
