Kind of disappointed with what they did with episode 2. Obviously, the problem lies in the time constraints on this particular anime. As a result it seems they are just really flying through the content with out actually considering how to properly pace things.

I thought the first episode of this season was well done, considering how little I liked the first season but this second episode shows signs of them slipping back into that weird groove they had in the first season where they just show the bare minimum of scenes and explain the rest through exposition. For example, because they never animated Akane's route in the first season, we barely got to meet Kashima Sakura much less understand how bitter and evil she really is. So instead we got this small little piece of exposition from Kotarou that basically talks about how evil she was. While yes, there are some lines in moon that talk about how completely deranged she must be to want to stop Kagari's theorem from being completed, they had more impact in the visual novel after having met and actually fought against Kashima Sakura.

I get the feeling the same thing is going to happen when

I guess I should just stop gripping and enjoy the moments that I wanted to see animated (that is if they are able to keep the animation consistent this season).

Episode 16

Now that the Occult Club is back, the mission is to protect Kagari while she puts her new theory to use. Kashima sure sent a bazillion beasts there and as strong as the members are, they just couldn't fight off that many monsters. Just when all looked lost, Sakuya comes in to save the day. And with the new theory, the truth is revealed that Kotarou was on the moon this whole time, and a new world is reborn. Quite a turn of events that was.

Sakuya's return made me smile...

But eh, it felt like the episode was rushed. Is that theme song also the one called "Rewrite"? Sounds familiar.

The song, rewrite that played is the 2nd OP for the game. It plays when you get to moon as the opening for the game and it features a pretty damned good animated compilation of the highlights from the common route. (interestingly enough that 3 minute animation was created by studio whitefox before they made a name for themselves with stiens;gate, and its much better then anything i've seen in this anime.) When they decided to put journey as the main OP for Moon I was actually surprised given that Rewrite is the actual OP for moon and Terra. I assume that they just didn't have the time to actually put a proper OP into these last episodes.

The episode it's self was completely rushed and they brought back the horrible CGI raptors. That CGI at the end of the moon and the earth was really dreadful as well; It looked like some one rendered it on an N64.

I think i've finally figured out the biggest problem with this anime adaptation; it can't do action scenes competently. The show was always going to be rushed, even if they gave it 26 episodes for each season it would feel rushed (only ~21 hours worth of animation to do a game that is 60 hours long vs the 10 hours they have). Every single route in rewrite has action scenes and all of them have a strong emotional backing to them. In the anime, all of the actions scenes are poorly animated and there is no emotional core to any of them. this last episode really brought that out, with the writers going from one heroine to the next showing them each fighting but not really showing the actual struggle that was going on in full. In the novel you really feel the tension and the stakes in all of the action scenes because they are properly setup and executed. In moon, its much more long and drawn out with smaller waves of enemies coming one at a time at first until there are too many for them to actually hold off.

Ahh well, I had hopes for the 2nd season because the plot is much more linear in the last two arcs but they've gone back to the badness from the first. Rushing everything and explaining the most important plot details through exposition.

I don't think that it was a bad choice to go with "Journey" as the OP for Moon. It's a decent song and a good fit. We will probably get our "Rewrite" OP next week.

With the occult club back Kotarou explains to everyone what Kagari is trying to do that the girls try to find ways to save earth but fail. Yoshino being on guard in the city lets Kotarou know of the monsters attacking and Kotarou gives everyone weapons to fight back. Kagari finally finds a method that would work and that's when Kashima sends waves of monsters to stop her. Just as the girls pass on to the new world Sakuya comes in to help Kotarou out at the risk of his existence. In the end Kotarou finds out that this whole time he's been in the moon and that everyone is being sent back to earth.

Episode 17

Things sure did change quite a lot in this new world Kotarou is in. He killed a human for the first time in his life, and those girls are now little kids. He first met Akane, and then Kotori move in to become his neighbor and has a dog she rescued who just wouldn't open up to anybody. Kotarou is doing what he can to save the world, and he's not exactly having much success at it. The endgame has began, and Kotarou just isn't feeling right.

so many sighs...

The new OP was good musically, but I disliked the actual animation part. Not to mention that they threw out Rewrite as a OP for this anime. (unless they tack it onto the end somehow.).

They way they portrayed Kotarou in the desert was a bit too much in so far as anxiety. From what I remember, he didn't hesitate to kill the guy in the Terra opening. He just felt like complete and utter trash about doing it later.

Episode 17

We have a new opening and it's not bad I really like it but still too soon to replace the other one. Anyways we Kotarou life in the new world and for the first time we see his parents. We even meet a girl who takes care of loli Akane and I think she was the one he married in another time line? I have to go back and watch the episode to make sure. We also meet a shota Yoshino and after being resuced by Kotarou looks up to him. Also for the first time Kotori's parents are introduced properly and even speak and of course a loli Kotori. The thing that upset me is that in this time line Kotori didn't seem to like Kotarou even after he helped her look for her dog. Lets see what happens in the next episode.?

Episode 18

And Kotarou begins his training with the Guardians seeing that the fate of this world depends on him mastering his superhuman abilities. He made that decision after getting into an argument with his parents over quitting Martel and running away. Of course, seeing that he's just getting started that of course Kotarou would start of at the bottom, but as Esaka puts it, what he needs to do is become useful. Meanwhile, Mikuni's team is just throttling the competition. Great to see him making friends seeing that he'll definitely need them if he has any chance with the path that he has chosen. This is pretty much setup for big things coming.

Episode 19

Fresh off his training Kotarou, now under the alias of Bondo Suzuki, is now on the job and his first order of business is to return Akane to the orphanage. Then his assignment is to find and eliminate the Key, meaning kill Kagari. So on their first deployment, Kotarou's team breaks off and ends up in the forest to fight a beast, all while for some reason Akane ends up in the forest. And just after saving Akane, Kagari is found, but Mikuni and other Guaradians are KIA'd. That situation played out like a visual novel with all of those options playing out in Kotarou's head. So by hiding Akane and Kagari from his superiors, that meant that Kotarou has to pack up and leave Japan, and thus setting the stage for the war ahead that was teased a few episodes ago.

Episode 20

That was quite an emotional episode there as Kotarou sure did face a lot of hell there as he killed someone for the first time. But what really got him was seeing children being killed as in this country, they are summoners being taken advantage of because of their poor social status. Kotarou got really close to Yasmin, and since that traumatic moment with Luis unintentionally killing children and then sacrificing himself to let Kotarou and the kids get away that Kotarou has become a better mercenary. Next time, he's coming back to Japan as Esaka has summoned him back. Kotarou sure is close with Yasmin and it's great to see that she's in a much better situation after all that.

This episode was something as we see Kotarou go through his first experience killing someone else and be treated unfairly due to his ability.
