Episode 1-3

We have the guy from the first season telling the stories again and they tried something new by adding live footage. The first three episodes are up and so far I liked the 3rd episode as the one with the cat and fish tank weren't that scary. I really hope this doesn't turn out as bad as the second season.

Third episode wasn't bad, I agree. The first two were kind of lame. Also, the ED, which has typically been very interesting for this show, is quite lackluster. I'll probably watch the whole season, since the episodes are so short, but...

episode 4

Are they trying to bore us with this episode? It looks like they aren't even trying with this season and it's a shame because it's not a bad show. lets see how the next episode turns out?

Like they say, "The worst entry in the trilogy is the Fourth one."

S3 wrapped itself up nicely, S4 seems to be thrown together at the last minute out of popularity:
The "gimmick" is now different voices for the Storyteller every week--But in the first three seasons, the Storyteller only had one line in every episode ("This story concerns a certain man who rented an apartment..."), before they would just go into the dramatic story.
Only now, the show has to justify hiring a different actor, by letting him tell the WHOLE DARN STORY...

The constant wall-to-wall narration removes us from the action and keeps us at a distance. In the old episodes without the narration, we're drawn into the J-horror action, and the long silences and staticky animation gave it a freakier nightmarish quality. (Particularly with "Inside" or "Empress Doll", yeesh! )
Here, it's like we're just listening to a summer-camp ghost story, and just as corny. And let's not even get into those inserted live-action snippets that are supposed to suggest "home movie", but also conveniently save on effects animation.

I can appreciate having no Miku ED theme on S3 since they were leading up to something, but what the heck is with the new happy-folksinger ED?
I know it's supposed to be satirical of other shojou ED's and probably also leading up to something, but like they weren't destroying the tone enough to begin with.

I'm sorry, but what the hell is this crap? Just got through with the hilarious and oh so horrifying new episode. This is nothing like the last three seasons, not that season three was any good mind you. Nothing like one or two. But this, this is utter bull crap. Not scary what so ever and what the flip at the live action and animation still changes? This isn't my Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories at all!!!!

Sorry for making a new thread before mods, didn't see the 4th season thread when I searched for it. Just wanted to rant a bit, anyone else highly disappointed?

While season 3 was bad, it wasn't as bad as this, also no more Miku ED?-__- pssh I loved her voice xD

Episode 5-9

Some of these episodes aren't so bad like 5 and 6 but we have boring ones like 8 & 9. Also one thing I noticed is that the storyteller voice is different each episode.

That's the "gimmick", if you're wondering about those thirteen silhouettes in the series art. (The "new Storytellers", y'see.)

I do have the one question to ask, after Ep. 6, "Guess Who" and Ep. 8, "Cassette Tape":
IS ANYONE MAKING ANY BLESSED FREAKIN' HEAD OR TAIL OUT OF THESE STORIES??????
(Or, to quote the more familiar MST3K-ism, "Well, that was nice; I do have one question, though: What the hell just happened??")

I can appreciate that the whole J-horror concept of the first three seasons' stories was the Japanese belief that Ambiguity Is Scary, but you at least had some idea that something happened. For all you could say about S2's thin ideas, at least they had a general short ghost-story concept and a punchline to deliver, even if it didn't need to be explained (because Ambiguity is Scary, after all).

After coming back jump-started from the conclusion of Season 3, the S4 stories seem to have jumped the shark along with the narration concept--
So far, "Night Bus" is the only sense that the Point A of a ghost-story concept ever got within sight of an expected Point B before (boom!) The End, and "Footsteps" at least hinted at some sense of "Oh, that's what that was."
Ambiguity can be scary, Unresolved Atmospheric Weirdness without any perceptible intent or purpose just sort of....sits there and gets stared at.

Episode 10-13

These last four episode I only found episode 10 and 12 worth the watch. However episode 11 and 13 were just horrible and boring like they didn't even try on those two. When it comes down to the whole season it was just horrible the worst Yamishibai season ever. It makes season 2 look good and if they plan to make another one they need to stop with narration and the live footage.
