Rain wasn't treated very well in Hollywood, Thursday March 13, 2008 Korea
Hollywood still discriminates Asian stars. Rain's compensation in his new movie Ninja Assassin was only half of the amount of a new American cast.

According to news from Newsen on March 13, the management company J.Tune of Rain said that although he played the main role in Ninja Assassin, his pay rate was only $500,000. However, he would be like other Hollywood stars in such way that after the movie was shown all over the world, he would receive his share of profit.

The article also emphasized that the pay rate of Rain was only half of other new casts who received up to 1 million dollars for each main character that they played in any movies.

With his famous in Asia, $500,000 was not a big money but Rain himself could lean on the number of audiences that would come to the theater because of his name, especially in many areas in Asia.

Besides, J. Tune also had announced on March 13 that Nikon's camera had just renewed 1 year contract with Rain; the net worth of the contract was up to 1 billion and 155 millions won. The new set of advertising will be filmed in Cambodia.

On March 7, Rain took a plane to Berlin to prepare for the filming of Ninja Assassin. When the first Hollywood movie Speed Racer is shown in Korea, he will be back for the movie's advertising activities.

I hope this movie has merit for Rain's talent. The Wachowski Brothers did a wonderful job with the first Matrix, everything else after that has a lot left to be desired. I hope they are not just using Oppa's popularity to sell something that is not of his caliber. If a star stars in enough crappy movies, it can hurt his appeal no matter how fine he is. So let us pray/chant/spin the wheel or whatever it is that you may do to send positive energy out into the universe to Oppa... But remember ladies, he's still my baby's daddy... so get your grubby paws off!

04.15.08 - Rain Accepts Training in Berlin Esp. To Lose Weight For Movie (Update)

1. Rain left on March 7th for 40-days of training in Berlin.

2. The shooting of the movie will be from May through July.

3. He's been involved in high physical strength training especially for acrobatic movements.

4. Back in Feb when reporters last saw him, he had lost 10 kg. Rain expressed that he must continue to lose 3 to 4 more kg. (YIKES!!)

5. In Germany, his diet consists of chicken breast meat, sweet potato and vegetables, all of which are foods that reduce fat and help increase muscle mass.

6. According to J.Tune, they said that his appetite is good and he likes to snack in between meals, but nowadays he can only eat designated foods each day, and therefore it's been very tough on him. They said that sometimes when he calls back home, he tells them how much he's thinking of eating certain kinds of food (homesick for Korean food).

7. He wakes up at 6 am every morning and takes about an hour or so to get himself ready. From 8 am to 5 or 6 pm, he attends training, just like a regular student attending classes. According to his close peeps, they say that his face looks even thinner than before, but his body looks like it has achieved optimum condition.

17 April 2008 - Rain, 10 hours of training, lost 13 kilograms

he road to getting a leading role in Hollywood is difficult. Rain, who was cast in "Ninja Assassin", is trying hard.

Rain went to Germany on March 7, and he has been training hard since 6 am for ten hours for the action scenes in the movie. The movie production company said that he also has to watch what he eats. A representative of J-Tune, Rain's company, said, "It hasn't been long since he started training officially. But he started dieting from the end of last year and has stopped intake of carbohydrates. He hasn't eaten a grain of rice. He is eating chicken breast, raw fish, sweet potatoes, and salad, and he receiving hard training". Because of his diet and training, he has lost about 12 kilograms.

Despite the harshness, he doesn't miss training and is eager for his first main role.

Rain entered Hollywood through "Speed Racer", a remake of a Japanese animation. He will be promoting the movie starting on the 21st in Korea, Hong Kong, America, England, Germany, and Japan.

On the 18th, Rain's management company stated, "In order for Rain to get the stature needed to film the movie <Ninja Assassin>, the fitness instructor from the movie <300> was invited to train him. Justa few hours ago I was in Long Beach attending the “Speed Racer” junket. To answer your immediate question…I loved the movie. In the coming daysI’ll write a lot more than that, but for now, let’s get to the reasonyou’re here.

While I got to participate in roundtableinterviews with most of the cast and super producer Joel Silver, I alsomanaged to talk with Joel after the junket had ended and got a fewinteresting bits of info as an exclusive.

What I found out wasthe Wachowski’s have already figured out an idea for a sequel to “SpeedRacer,” and even better than that…they’ve already come up with an ideafor a sequel to a movie that’s not even begun to film yet…“NinjaAssassin!”

If you don’t know about "Ninja Assassin," it’s beingdirected by James McTeigue (“V for Vendetta”) and it was written by theWachowski’s. According to Joel, production begins in a few weeks and heconfirmed my Collin Chou story from earlier this week as he didn’tmention him when I asked about the cast.

Oh, and for the record, it’s not “Ninja Assassins,” because when I said the name he corrected me with “Assassin.”

As usual, you can listen to what Joel said as an mp3 by clicking here or you can read the words below.

Expect a lot more on “Speed Racer” in the coming days.

Collider: I spoke with you at ShoWest and you gave me a little bit of an update on Shane Black. Is it any closer?

Joel Silver: Hopefully this May. I hope May. (I think he means he’ll be getting the script?)

Collider: And then we have Ninja Assassins.

Joel Silver: Ninja Assassin.

Collider: So how is that progressing?

Joel Silver: Fantastic. We start shooting in 3 weeks.

Collider: There was a little story online about casting. What’s going on with casting on that?

JoelSilver: Rain. We’ve got Naomie Harris is going to be in the movie. Idon’t think we announced her yet. She’s the girl in the movie – Mika. And the other parts are coming together – we’re making it happen…we’reworking on it now.

Collider: And how has it been working with James on this? Is he excited to get started?

JoelSilver: Oh God yeah. He’s got his hands full. It’s a big movie.. it’snot an expensive movie but it’s a lot of work. A lot of visual effects,it’s not like this (he’s talking about Speed Racer) but like we did onThe Matrix movies.

Collider: What else do you have coming up besides Ninja Assassin? Is there any other project that’s getting ready to go?

Joel Silver: RocknRolla will come out next.

Collider: I actually spoke to someone who said it’s very good.

Joel Silver: It’s very good.

Collider: Are they making a trilogy?

Joel Silver: Maybe…if it works. It’s really good and it’s a lot of fun. I think it’s the best movie Guy ever made.

Collider: I want to follow up with a question from the roundtables. Iasked you if Larry and Andy had come to you and made you smile with anew idea.

Joel Silver: Look, they have a great story ideafor a sequel to this movie (Speed Racer), we have a great idea for asequel if it makes sense to make it. They have a great idea for asequel to Ninja if they want to make it. We’re having a good time. Ilove working with them and it’s a great joy to have them in my life. They’re smart and funny and they love the kind of movies I love andthey know how to make them like no one else. I look at this movie andcan’t believe we created it. I can’t believe it exists.

Collider: I know you have to go, but one last question for you…with TheMatrix you guys raised the bar with action and you did things that noone had ever done. Is Ninja Assassin in that kind of light?

JoelSilver: I hope so. But it’s fighting, it’s kung-fu. We did other thingsin The Matrix that we’re not really doing in this one as much…like carchases and helicopters and all that stuff. This is a martial arts movie.

German fund backs 'Ninja Assassin'
Silver, Wachowski Bros. film picks up $9 million

BERLIN -- Joel Silver and the Wachowski Brothers are becoming regular clients of Germany's Federal Film Fund, which has agreed to bankroll their latest production, "Ninja Assassin," to the tune of E5.8 million ($9 million).

The James McTeigue-helmed actioner is shooting at Studio Babelsberg near Berlin.

Last year, the Federal Film Fund helped bankroll 99 international and domestic films, including the Wachowskis' "Speed Racer," which received $14 million -- the biggest allotment given to any film in 2007.

Warner Bros.' "Ninja Assassin" has already received $1 million from regional subsidy org Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, which also backed the studio's 2005 thriller "V for Vendetta," a Silver and Wachowski production also directed by McTeigue.

1 June 2008 - Legendary Ninja Kosugi returns in ‘Ninja Assassin’

According to Dark Horizons, filming on NINJA ASSASSIN, produced by Joel Silver and the Wachowski Brothers, who made the recent flop SPEED RACER, has begun shooting in Berlin, Germany. However, according to the report, a 1980’s action icon returns in his first role in over fifteen years.

Sho Kosugi, the legend

Sho Kosugi, who perhaps was responsible for pioneering the Ninja craze in American action films in the early 80’s, returns to the screens and is said to be playing the role of the leader of the Ozunu Clan, the ninja gang who go after the film’s protagonist, a former Ozunu Clan member named Raizo, played by Korean pop icon Rain. Rain recently made his Hollywood film debut in the abysmal live action adaptation of SPEED RACER.

Kosugi gained fame in the 1980’s after appearing in Cannon’s Ninja trilogy, which consisted of ENTER THE NINJA (1981), REVENGE OF THE NINJA (1983), and NINJA III: THE DOMINATION (1984). He usually would appear alongside his sons, Kane and Shane. Kane is currently a top action star in Japan who was recently seen in D.O.A.: DEAD OR ALIVE (2006), opposite Jamie Pressly and Devon Aoki; and WAR, where he had two brief fights, one opposite Ryo Ishibashi and one opposite Jet Li.

Kosugi retired from films in the mid-90’s to form the Sho Kosugi Institute, where he teaches acting and martial arts alongside younger son Shane. Shane returned to Hollywood with a brief role in Tom Cruise’s film THE LAST SAMURAI (2003) with member of Sho’s Ninja Taiko group.

From the looks of it, fans may expect a Rain-Kosugi fight in NINJA ASSASSIN. The film co-stars Rick Yune, Naomie Harris, and Ben Miles. James McTeigue (V FOR VENDETTA) directs with action choreography by David Leitch and Chad Stahelski, who handled stunt coordinating duties on SPEED RACER.

NINJA ASSASSIN is scheduled for release in 2009 from Warner Brothers.
