Always was into comics and cartoons as a kid. First anime love would be, like previous poster, Zoids, Dragonball and DBZ on Toonami back in early 2000s. Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the shell on Adult Swim.

I wonder how many times threads like this is going to keep popping from time to time, but differently.

So, here we go again. It started one day when i went to buy something and i take one gaze at the magazine stand and guess what: Soul Eater manga draws my attention. Few days later, i buy it. Then i find it has an anime. I buy the DVD and what happens next? I'm hooked. In other words, it's my first anime. i don't count the ones i seen/watched as a kid (the obvious one we all know, Digimon, Beyblade and such). I did watched several episodes of DB:Z when for some reason, it aired here for some while several years ago. Man, it was great time...

Ever since I was a kid. My cousins and I would watch Sailor Moon and Pokemon together. To my kid self they were just cartoons though, didn't even know the term anime.

I didn't become a fan of anime until I was a little older, maybe 12 or 13 years old? My adolescent self discovered adult swim and toonami. When I couldn't get enough through regular broadcasting I quickly turned to the internet.

I've been stuck in this black hole ever since and don't see myself coming back out any time soon. lol

In 2014, someone in my school told me about Parasyte the Maxim, so I decided to check it out, watch episode 1-11 (or 12) in one day. I knew what anime was before that, I just didn't watch it or know much about it. However, it was my oldest brother who got my into watching more anime by telling me about some shows to check out.

ive seen a similar thread like this before

When I was just a little kid many decades ago , I first saw a a cartoon of flying vehicle joining together forming a robot. I didnt know it was a japanese "cartoon" until I got hook on the next cartoon and it had japanese symbols hiragana and katakana on screen and some merchandise

but after that , I lost all of those until I was an adult on a ski trip at Teluride watching late night Cartoon network , where I first saw Inuyasha and that was my revival. My first cosplay was Inuyasha

I grew up watching anime as part of Saturday morning cartoons I didn't know Digimon was an anime for the longest time until I really started to realize what anime was and actively sought it out.

I saw shows on tv when I was younger without really knowing they were anime. I worked graveyard for a long time and we had a lot of dead time at night so I watched tv shows everyday. After awhile I started looking for something else to watch and ended up finding Bleach on Youtube one weekend and ended up watching the first 2 seasons straight. After that I got hooked and started actively looking for shows.

Mine was Dragon Ball Z, I honestly don't remember exactly when. I would have to guess I was in around sixth grade that was probably around 1998 or 1999. My little brother was watching it on Toonami and he got me into watching it. I had no idea what it was I just thought it was cartoons. But I really enjoyed it and I started watching more shows on Toonami like Gundam Wing, and Outlaw Star. I watched whatever was on Toonami at that time because that was the only way I could watch anime, there was no streaming or anything and VHS tapes were to expensive. But then I got out of anime in my later high school years. I didn't get back into it until I was in college. I was going through a very rough time of my life and I was super depressed and didn't want to live anymore at times. Then one day while I was at Walmart I walked past an dvd rack and it had the DVD pack of all three Dragon Ball Z Broly movies in it, and I remembered how I never got to see any of those movies so I bought it and when home and watched it. And I loved it and it reminded me of how good I felt as a child watching it on tv after school. So I went back and they also had the first season of Dragon Ball Z in those big orange box sets. I bought it and marathoned the whole thing. Then I bought the second one and burned through it really fast. But that was all they had, it was going to be a couple weeks before the third would be released so I had to wait. But it gave me a purpose, something to do to feel good and something to look forward to. After fourth one I made myself a deal that I had to make it through all the way to see the end. And as the next couple years or so went by I slowly bought them and then waited. And in between I had a friend introduce me to Bleach and Naruto and I started watching them to and other. As time went on I got less and less depressed and things started to get better for me and my thoughts of suicide disappeared. Then when the last season finally came out I bought it to and watch all but the last disc. I made myself that bet years ago that I had to live on to see the end. I have never watched that disc and I never ever will. As far as I see it Dragon Ball Z saved my life, I owe it all to Goku. But since I got into Bleach, Naruto and others I just started watching more and more anime. Now I have seen 387 different shows and there are just as many that I still want to watch. I am almost 29 years old and I still love anime and I always will. I owe my life to it.
