Oh hey another proper action by Obama to limit foreign influence in our elections and policy turn into a grand conspiracy to end all free press by the far right.

Seriously Do you ever get tried of turning every action by someone with a (D) next to there name into a grand conspiratorial act while the ones with the (R) keep fucking you from behind. No joke I've noticed this a lot with the far right It's like you realize you keep voting against you own interest but to quiet that nagging voice telling you to objectively look at both side you make up these vast conspiracy filled with danger and fear to distract yourself. There are legitimate reason to be angry at Democrats just as there are legitimate reason to be pissed that the GOP. But the insanity pizzagate, This, There coming for your guns, Christians are under attack. All that shit isn't one of them

If you would spend one tenth the effort to self reflect on your own pary the GOP could became a force for good again like it was in the 50s before the southern stragety and Goldwater.

Yes because the government using taxdollars to create a Ministry of Truth is just fine.

Hey I guess if that's fine you should be okay with a Muslim registry, camps and mass deportations?

"If you're fine with the government trying to keep the people informed, you must also be okay with them sacrificing virgins to Beelzebub on every third Saturday, right?"

Seriously, get out of here with that shit. There is nothing inherently wrong with the government officially commenting on rumors and heresay. This changes virtually nothing in the law and does nothing to infringe on the freedom of the press. Just saying "yeah, but Orwell" doesn't make you right (or make you sound intelligent).

Delusional.
All it does is let Big Brother write the narrative they want the people to hear, legally.
Also
>putting potential terrorists on a list and deporting illegals is the same as sacrificing virgins for whatever

Well, if I were you, I wouldn't have quoted him (in-context) and call him delusional. He's basically paraphrasing what you've said from an outside perspective. You did make a rather large leap down the slippery slope.

On Topic:

I actually agree with both sides of this argument. The government has, systematically, been the type to take a foot when given an inch. While I'm sure the intention wasn't to allow overall censorship and "commandment" of the free press, I do think there's a chance that the government will utilize this going forward in a less than satisfactory kind of way (especially with Trump's "attack" on the free press recently). At the end of the day, currently, the most the government can do about this is call shenanigans when mainstream media makes some article riddled with half-truths that aren't verified by any leg of the government. That doesn't mean that there can't be amendments to this bill that would allow a "Ministry of Truth" kind of scenario where they would be filtering out or shutting down anything that they disagree with. It's just unlikely it'll manifest in that particular form.

All it does is let the government comment on rumors. Which changes literally nothing.

Not a lie. This really happened. And like all other powers that government gives itself, it will abuse.

I know what the new agency is "suppose to do," but government has always "found a way" to go beyond what they were "suppose to do."

It'll be a while before this agency is up and running. I've read somewhere that it may not be until July 2017 before we see the new federal agency begin its mission. We'll see it in action then, then we will see how it gets abused.

No, the government stopping people from telling the truth because they don't like it has nothing to do with the first amendment. Any educated person would know that the first amendment is all about stopping government officials from addressing rumours about them.
