Do you guys have friends to talk about anime with?

My best friends and I used to watch the same animes all the time in middle school and it was awesome. But now one of them doesn't watch at all and another one doesn't watch the lovey dovey shoujo anime I love, instead they watch like shounen stuff. And the last one, she at least still reads shoujo manga. So she and I can talk a little bit of manga but all the other newer friends I've made, none of them watch anime or they think it's weird lol. So I can only really talk anime here now.

It happens. Anime isn't quite popular as it might seem when all your school friends are into the same thing. People might "grow out" and find other interests, and just a lot of people have never bothered with those weird Japanese cartoons.

But that doesn't mean you won't find new friends who also like anime, but be prepared that they may not share all your preferences.

One thing you can do is try to find out if there's an anime club active in your area, either at a library or on a local college, and try to get involved there to make new connections could become friendships.

I have actually observed the anime club in my college in a club fair we had. It seems to mostly have a lot of those over the top, cringey fans...so I'm not sure whether to try it out or not. Maybe I'll just go for one day and see.

Most of the people I talk to about anime is really short;

"What should I watch next?" "That episode was great" etc lol

Hmmm. Part of the reason I started to become (somewhat) active on CR was to find people with whom I talk about anime. Lately, though --- and this probably demonstrates how little in touch I am with my surroundings sometimes --- I'm beginning to figure out there are people in my college who also watch anime, at least one of whom can talk in depth about what he watches. And, for an added bonus, none of them are the odd type xD.

Honestly didn't realize how many techy types are into anime until probably a few weeks ago lol.

Ah, yeah groups like that can have their own problems, but who knows, you might find someone who knows how to act in social situations.

Not really, well a few people here on the CR forums.

I'm in my universitiy's anime club, but so far I am finding it difficult to actually talk to ppl there, maybe its because i'm new though.

My old roommates were my go to people for anime discussions, but sadly I've lost contact with both of them

Yes, some of my buddies here on CR, and my ex boyfriend but he lives far. The few girl friends I have IRL, none of them likes anime, they only care about girl stuffs.

Not a soul IRL, but living in a rural area can suck like that.

Plus there's still the giant "cartoons are for kids" bias that goes on regardless of the actual content of the animation. So, I usually hold out on someone expresses interest first.

I have two friends. One is an otaku obsessed with all things Dragon Ball, the other is more open to other anime. I've been trying to get them on CR via guest passes but no go so far

I had one but he moved away. Other than that, anime fans only exist as database rows in PHP-driven web forums.

I don't. There's a guy at work that watches occasionally but that's it.
