So I don't know if anyone else saw this, getting more than a little nervous :s

http://www.animeherald.com/2017/01/18/crunchyroll-parent-ellation-lays-off-17-employees-following-acquisition/

(sorry I realised this doesn't cover most of the issue, it's mainly coming out of twitter... seems like the 17 in question are the core staff members :s)

It's very common when making acquisitions to have layoffs. This is because you often end up with redundant positions between the acquired company and the acquiring company, and a need to reorganize to end up with the best mix of people from both, given what the key needs are.

Just what are you nervous about?

There are implications that some major people from the site like Miles and Victoria are involved, not really sure :s

She is probably copy and pasting some memo they were told to post when the acquisition happened. Suffice it to say they are avoiding talking about it and preventing any major discussion from starting up. What Lorreen says is true but sometimes a company can be made or broken by certain individuals.

Well that's what I would have thought but all the stuff on Twitter sounds pretty damning (including posts from Victoria and Miles themselves). What I am unsure about is whether all the people posting are sad because they themselves have been laid off or just about the changes in the company that have caused the layoffs (it basically seems that the new CR CTO who was a major figure in the company they've acquired is a very unpleasant person who doesn't care about the staff and is responsible for some recent unwelcome changes to CR's business model or something).

I found him unprofessional, too. But I only want to know why.

If by 'I only want to know why' you meant why the layoffs and stuff it seems the big comment at the top of this Reddit thread was posted by an anonymous CR employee...

:s This is incredibly sad and concerning. I wonder what sort of impact these layoffs will have on CR's future. The Reddit thread saying parts of the staff were outsourced can't be a good thing at all...

I hope someone comes and sheds some light on this because I'd really like to know what my money is going towards now.
