So I've been thinking about getting into this series for a while but have no idea where to start? It seems like there are multiple series? And/or light series/manga? Just looking for some insight, hell even a step-by-step, as to where to begin. If there is a thread that already exists that details the best way to enter/progress through the series by all means point me to it! I've tried looking but most drawn out 'guides' I've seen are from like 2-3 years ago. I'm trying for the full story here so whether it be the anime, manga, or light novels I'm willing to go through it all if need be.

Edit: I'm also looking for a clean DL for the Fate/Stay Night visual novel as well. In English of course and with the H-scenes in tact. I've looked around but I'm not too savvy with torrents so I'm not exactly sure which links/torrents to trust or not. A lot of guides have dead links or just lead to not-so-reputable sites lol. Without the knowledge to sift through duds and malware I'd appreciate some help ^^

Yeah you can go ahead and look in that thread. Personally I think Fate/Zero should be watched before UBW. I was told to watch UBW first and I kind of regret it. They both spoil each other though.

Just added a note about the OG visual novel to my initial post, dunno why I didn't do that to begin with. Overall, thank you all for input about the series and please continue to assist me with finding a proper copy of the VN.

1. I'm glad I watched Deen's adaptation of the Fate route first, before I watched the Ufotable stuff. I much preferred its focus on character arcs over the (admittedly great) flashy fight scenes and visuals of Unlimited Blade Works. While the story is very similar of course, the focus is on Shirou and Saber instead of Rin (and Archer). I vastly prefer these versions of both Shirou and Saber to the paper-thin versions found in later works. But that's just me.

Worth a watch though, just make sure you do it first, going back in time after watching Ufotable's animation may be impossible.

2. Fate/Zero is amazing and serves as a good prequel to UBW.

3. The last thing I watched was UBW and because of the boring and... kind of bad actually, second cour, will probably be the last Fate for me.

So perhaps I should have watched Fate/Zero last . That way I would have some serious hype left for this series

But again, that's just me.

Just watch them in release order. I still think that's the best way, myself.

Honestly the best thing is to play the fate/stay night vn before checking out Fate/Zero. A lot of fate/stay night is spoiled with Fate/Zero which makes sense as f/z was a prequel written after the vn.

But do what you want. Fate/zero is incredible but fate stay night, as a whole, is better. The Heaven's Feel route is the next from Ufotable and it's my fav route of the three. Now if only Ufotable would do the fate route...

But if you're just doing anime than I would just stick with anything Ufotable adapts and skip the rest.

Yes if you can, definitely play the VN first. That will give you a nice point of reference. After that you can just sit back and enjoy the Ufotable animation.

Perhaps you can find something on the visual novel database. Realta Nua is the version to go for: https://vndb.org/v11

Here's an installation guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/fatestaynight/comments/2r1qvl/fatestay_night_vn_installation_guide/

I also recommend Kara no Kyokai (The Garden Of Sinners). It's the series that started the Nasuverse, served as a prototype, and introduced many of the concepts found in the fate and tsukihime series. Plus Ufotable adapted the entire series as well.

I recommend going in release order for the anime, watch F/SN by DEEN first, I think it's the best gateway to the world, then maybe, the UBW movie, but if you don't watch before the ufo series, don't bother. Then Fate/Zero, it's just great and works well as a prequel, this one's the best. Then go with the UBW series, which is definately great, although not as much as Zero, and much better than the first series. Finally, wait for the Heaven's Feel movies to come out.
