I've been wondering... what are some ways to motivate yourself to do something such as a project or obtaining a goal? Why do you think you become motivated from this?

I've been finding it difficult at times to find the motivation to do projects that I should have finished by now. I can't seem to find motivation to work on said projects. I've been working on improving this.
When I do motivate myself I just jump right into doing the project. Most of the time it starts with a small vague idea and then I just jump into it to see if I can come up with something. Sometimes it works out, most of the time it ends up with a bunch of scrapped things from the project. I think I get motivated because of having a vague idea on what I want to make and it seems reasonable and possible.

What do you do to motivate yourself? Why do you think it motivates you?

A big one for me is a fear of failure. Even at times a fear of less than optimal results. Thus I am driven to succeed and complete a project.

I have ADD. I have medication to help me focus, but that doesn't help motivate me. The only way I can motivate myself is to force myself to get started. I find once I've started something, it's not so bad.

Is there a particular project you have in mind? Like, do you have any hobbies/goals, like writing, drawing or some such?

I'm a musician/music producer, so I really get that balance between being motivated to do something and being in a creative headspace to do it. Most of the times, motivation is not something you easily obtain. It can be a sudden burst, like right after watching a movie or seeing a documentary and you're thinking "that was so inspirational! I gotta do something now", but 15 minutes later, it's gone.

It's more about discipline and having the fortitude to see a goal through, and that's why it's important to set realistic goals that are within your reach. If you're just starting out writing or drawing, you can't just set a goal saying "I'm gonna write a book like Orson Welles! or, I'll draw a painting like Monèt!" Baby steps are really important for getting that sense of achievement and becoming more motivated.

The more you learn, the better your skills get, the more motivated you become. We really hate not knowing how to do something, and so we easily give up on learning it, if our curve is too steep. But if you're continuously making progress, learning something every day and you see the results of that, you want to keep going, since we like being good at stuff.

There's only one reason why I do anything in this world and that's a secret.

1) My son.

2) I want to die with no regrets, and want to leave saying: 'I did my best and proud of what I've done'.
These are my motivations

A wise man once said "I have motivational issues", then he bought a poster of a cat hanging from a rope and it said "Hang in there".

Jokes aside, I have some motivation here and there, but it is hard to find! Just want to fix my social anxiety and get out there! That is my motivation for now.

Nothing like a good workout to make you feel like you can do anything.

Music usually does the trick for me.

This.
Either playing or listening to music will motivate me to do something. Running behind on a project? Slap on the headphones and get to work. Having issues pushing myself to "the next level" when at the gym? More music. Finding a game a bit of a grind? Yep.. music. Feeling stuck on something? Play the bass, eventually it gets me out of that "headspace" and back to where I need to be to get it done.

Yup. And on the flip side, my motivation is kind of a reward/ payment system that I use when I work out as well as with other things. Basically when I watch anime if I have something to do I'll do it in between episodes during one of the themes or at each half episode. Like, 1 paragraph on an essay per episode or 1 set of 5 reps each half episode, etc.

Motivation is all about momentum.

Start rolling and keep at the pace. Do one thing every day consistently to advance. Keep up, never take a break, just a small amount a day keeps the ball rolling. If you never slow down then you can only ever stay the same or pick up speed.
