There were small things right off the bat that bugged me. Little details like Gran chopping wood in gauntlets and greaves him being the only one in the village seeming to react to the artifact, their seeming lack of preparing for a potential wildfire despite talking about it, nobody in the village seeming concerned that he just ran off towards the crash site, etc. Details that leave the background and setting feeling superficial. And the cg dragons are just kind of ugly while the useless cute dragon's voice is irritating.

The gripes aside, the characters are just interesting enough to keep watching and the second episode fleshes things out a little. Aaron's apparent crush on Gran is kinda cute. Not sure I'll stay interested to watch this the whole way through, but at worst it seems like an average adventure story with decent art and okay action.

Final Fantasy called. It wants it's Final Fantasy back. Even the Bahamut design was straight up from Final Fantasy.

Well that's because Hideo Minaba is the character designer/art director for the game.

He was involved with character design, art design, and/or art director for FF5, 6, Tactics, 9, 12, 13, 13-2, and 14. As well as a few other rpgs and square games.

This got halfway to my "probably won't watch more" category the moment cutesy mini-dragon thing showed up, but once it all unfolded it's back as a possibility. Characters are likeable (except for annoying cutesy dragon thing) and Katalina is excellent. I enjoy quest stories, even if cliched, if they don't seem to be only going through the motions, and in the case of game-tie-ins, don't seem too obviously gamelike, and this one is doing fine so far in that regard. Nothing super great, but with potential to be pleasant light entertainment.

TSUNDERE ALERT

In other news... me TOLD U PEOPLES OF THE INTERNET: This show iz GOOD! Ye trash me too much, sometimes.....

And I would gamble this headed straight to Adult Swim with a dub as well, hopefully less annoying lizard. The dub likely be something Aniplex-affiliated studios, so unlikely FUNimation. Probably people who do SAO, I imagine. Indeed, u can have faith in this show, it is likely to be most expensive AAA anime this year.

Anyways, the story and characters are Tier 1, ye need not worry... reason thus #1 Mobile ("social") game in Japan. Although game itself is evil: "Pay for the chance to win" scam. And if ur wondering why relations to FF, its maker (and music) by former FF people. Though the game more resembles "Skies of Arcadia", with elements from the anime "Last Exile". BTW, if ur wondering about the anime art style, that is how the game art is presented.

In either case, it shall be so...

repost...

I just watched the show today...and when I saw the art , I keep saying to myself ...this one looks familiar , Hideo Minaba is the same art designer/director for some of the Final Fantasy series. http://granbluefantasy.jp/en/interview/interview_1.php

I am really liking the art and the animation quality is really good .So much detail.
Same seiyuu as in the game plus Yuuki Ono as Gran

As for people , downloading the game app and playing the game after watching the anime, that is what Cygames wants
Most gaming profit are from those formats nowadays but since the animation is done via this show, i wont be surprised if they make a console game version.

So far I really like what I am watching. I like Zestiria too but I like the blending of the CG parts better in this show.

ps... \I am not much of an RPG gamer,

Just to mention but chopping wood in armor isn't actually weird when you consider he specifically said he was training. You need to get used to wearing armor while moving around, and learn how it affects your grip, balance, etc.

I assume he didn't have the chest on because it's stuffy.

She's going to be the promo character for advertisements and the promo character, from what the game's wiki says.

The show resumes in April. It was originally scheduled to air this season, but due to production delays it ended up being delayed to the spring. A-1 did get the first two episodes all ready to go, so they had a sneak peek special, so that's why it is what it is.

Gentle bump since it seems like the next episode is just a few hours away, and folks might have forgotten about this thread.

Update: It's not so much the "next" episode as Episode 1 again. What was watched and available to all now shows up for me as unwatched and Premium Only. (The old ep 2 is still available though).

And now this show is back. It's starting from the beginning, so this would be good as a refresher, but until then nothing new will come until two weeks from today.

First two episodes were decent. Characters are a bit bland, but they might grow on me. I think this is a show that will get more fun once it gets going, so I will stick it out a bit longer.
