I'm really enjoying the pacing of this series. It moves along and never feels like it's dragging, no filler episodes, but also doesn't feel like they're rushing. The story and plot all feel "natural" like it could really happen unlike other similar series where you kinda have to suspend disbelief to go along.

Ouch

For a show that's been light hearted and frothy, episode 10 was a kick in the teeth. The owner tells Kasumi she was the weakest link, and then she proceeds to lose her voice on the second audition.

This show reminds me so much of K-On!

Things are looking back on track! In retrospect that really was a lot of pressure to put on a person with very little musical experience (even if she put most of it on herself).

Hopefully we get a great Poppin' Party performance next episode.

Episode 10

After failing on the first audition the girls decide to try again the next day but the owner refuses since they can't have gotten good in just one day. Not giving up the girls try to figure out what is missing so that the owner can pass them. Kasumi decides to go tell the owner at night that she won't give up until she plays on her stage and the owner pops her bubble by telling her she performed the weakest. Kasumi takes this so hard that on their second audition she loses the ability to sing.

Episode 11

Kasumi loses her voice so she has to visit the doctor to see whats wrong. Everything turns out okay but for mean time the rest of the band decide that she should take a break until she feels better. The hard part was seeing Kasumi going from the cheerful girl to just being silent. While visiting the swim team she gets some advice and turns out the pressure of failing was what made her lose her voice. After some time she gets her voice back the next day she goes back to the band to start practicing, but when it came time for her to sing she couldn't sing at all. Kasumi running away is chased after by the rest of the band and they decide to spit parts to sing to make it easier for Kasumi to sing. In the end she able to sing the song and looks like they might try for another audition.

Momentum of the show never falters despite certain cast of characters struggling with their musical performances with emotional weight. Core chemistry remains the central thematics for a strong musical series like this and it shines throughout bringing out the best in one another

Okaa-san doesn't waste time in shipping her daughter with her friends. I approve.

I feel that, story-wise, this is one of the best band / idol anime to come out in years. The development feels more natural. The drama has never felt manufactured. The characters aren't outrageously trope-y but still unique and memorable. If there's a place I feel it's weak it's in the music, at least with PoPiPa. But that's not a bad thing. After all they're supposed to be a new band with almost no stage experience. And when I compare the performance in Ep12 to the opening it's obvious the performers aren't trying to sound their best. Plus the audition has a more raw, less produced quality which definitely lends to that "real" feeling that's permeated the series.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Ep13 brings. I'm not sure if I want a "Yay Space is saved!" ending or a more realistic "Damn Space went out with a bang!" ending. Though I feel Space closing would be more true to the tone of the series. And probably evoke more tears.

Stumbled across this video of a live performance of PoPIPa and it left me wondering whether they had the guitars and the ones in the anime are copies or if they had copies of the guitars from the anime created.

The BanG Dream project began about a year or two ago I believe so they had the guitars before the anime began.

I found this anime to be lacking from start to end. The characters (aside from Tae) are interesting, and I really liked Saaya's part of the story; but overall I found BangDream rather boring. If they ever do a second season I hope they let us hear more songs; because aside from half a season of twinkle twinkle there was almost nothing to listen to for a music anime.

6/10 show (mostly for Arisa)

I really enjoyed this series. The pacing was solid throughout. No sense of artificial drama to drag the plot out. To be honest it all felt like an effort to encourage girls to create bands. Which given its roots does make sense. The only really "not right" thing was that PopiPa was the closing act. Normally you'd pick your most popular, well-known act to close any show but especially a "the venue is closing" event.

Also, it was awesome seeing Roselia making not one but two appearances.
