Thoughts on Shin Gojira/Godzilla Resurgence?

Though I'm always happy to see another Godzilla movie, and the 3D and representation of the monster was pretty good, I had some gripes. Don't get me wrong, I love NGE as much as the next person, but man the atmosphere of godly terror (somewhat of a trademark style for Hideaki Anno) just made Godzilla a little more then he/she should have ever been.

All Godzilla/Gojira movies have always had this aspect of fun to them (aside from the original), and a sort of of self-awareness, no matter how serious the plot could be. Here it is so scant that it makes Godzilla horrific and seemingly unstoppable. The aspect of Government officials and such being the characters was indeed a excellent choice but it, again, just makes things terrifying and grounded.

Whats funny is that this is everything Godzilla fans have been wanting to see for years, but I couldn't say this was the best or my favorite Godzilla.

I'm curious to hear what everyone else thought of this?
And man, I wish Crunchyroll would deal with Japanese cinema - for Godzilla movies alone.

I watched it when Funi showed it in U.S. theaters. I liked it. I liked the ending. It was a nice set up for a possible sequel. They didn't stop Godzilla. They only delayed him. They bought themselves some time before he can "evolve himself out of that trap."

The government having meetings was serious, but funny. They had to change locations to discuss certain things, and even had to put on uniforms to go to the next level of government response.

I loved all of that, I just thought Godzilla was just so terrifying of a concept in the film that it was a bit jarring! I loved the government aspect and how it sort of poked at the recent Godzilla from Gareth Edwards.

I enjoyed it for the most part.

Here's where I disagree with you. By far the worst part of the movie for me was how much time was spent with people in suits going to meetings to talk about godzilla and then moving to different rooms to go to other meetings to talk about godzilla. It just felt like filler meant to pad out the run time.
