The popular Western belief is that the shift into a more advanced society is motivated by the desire of a better life; in fact, it is used as a satisfying explanation of mass immigration to the Western countries while hiding many other motivating forces. This popular logic is overturned a century ago when some anthropologists study the Ju`hoansi, a band of hunter-gatherers in Africa. This findings overturn everything that the Westerners belief about social progress: the idea that economic advancement improve physical well-being and lessen workload is never challenged by sci-fiction shows. There are some recent anime that oppose popular beliefs that is taken for granted but none ever challenged the traditional notion of economic progress.

The Ju’hoansi do not raise their own food and they live in the dry rocky savanna that is considered ‘barren land’ by local travelers but the Ju’hoansi never face starvation. The Ju’hoansi only spend two hours each day to obtain food and pick only a small portion of all possible food sources for consumption except under periods of food shortage; in fact, they gain as much nutrition as the Western citizens. Physicians who examine Ju`hoansi children report them in good health by tropical standard. The Ju’hoansi also suffer less from disease since they do not live near suitable breeding ground for disease and do not live with many people.

The study of more 'primitive' societies like this obviously raise a question: If a more basic society provide a better quality of life than more advanced society, then why do people decide to live in a more advanced society? Anthropologists found an answer to this question: advanced society can sustain greater population density and manage big projects compared with more basic society.
Another related question is why do people immigrant to the Western nations when more basic societies provide a better quality of life. There are some explanations related to global Capitalism: 1) The transnational corporate is destroying the natural environment which provide the vital resources, like clean water, used to sustain basic society; 2) The corporate setup a puppet government who will steal the land from the locals and force the locals to move to the urban areas where they work under harsh living condition with low wage; 3) The developed countries offer a market for international criminal activities which negatively impacted the living condition in the developing countries.

This revolution that social advancement actually lead to worse physical well-being and more labor demands support the Capitalist idea of progress by competition but it evoke a comparison between the traditional notion of progress and Capitalism: The Capitalists explain well how competition does something but they explain poorly on whether competition benefit society; The traditional notion of progress imply personal incentive for progress without competition but the Capitalists counter this idea by claiming that competition is the only incentive for progress.

This new perspective of social progress can seriously threaten the global Capitalist propaganda: The global Capitalists claim that the first world citizen should not progress away from the mal-adaptive Capitalist system because “the third world citizen fare even worse”. They enforce this argument by projecting their spoiled kid culture into the millennial generation of the first world citizens. The desires of spoiled kids are used to explain the opposition against Capitalism so the Capitalists can justify terrorism and violation of human right. The millennials generation are told to be content with the current injustice of global Capitalism where they need to be “like their parents” who (supposedly) need to submit to the delusion and childish desires of the rich 1%. Although the Capitalists stigmatize the supposed spoiled kid culture of the anti-Capitalist opposition, this same spoiled kid culture from the economic elites is justified for promoting economic investment.

This spoiled kid culture originate from the Global economic elites who is developing a new generation of highly ego-centric childish people. This culture can be attributed to the rise of Global Capitalism where the rich 1% can use their property ownership to live on the labors of the commoners and make the commoners bear the responsibility of the rich. The Capitalists protect this spoiled kid culture by claiming that all first world citizen depend on the rich 1%. The highly anti-social disruptive behaviors from this culture can be described as ‘freakish’, ‘weird’, or ‘abnormal’ like those psychopathic characters from those psychological thriller fiction shows. This cultural promotion of personality disorders can explain why the Capitalists blame abnormal mal-adaptive behaviors to culture.

The idea that the luxury of the 1% lead to this spoiled kid culture contradict the Capitalist logic that culture determine economic condition; by claiming that first world economic luxury create mal-adaptive culture, the citizen can be convinced into abandoning free trade with its neo-colonialism since the cultural improvement can offset the lack of economic luxury. The Capitalists would then respond by claiming that economic productivity (which is supposedly maximized by the Capitalist system) is needed for social advancement and competitive advantage over other nations. However, this further contradict their phobia of Communists and their weakening power in the first world despite their superior property ownership.

This new re-evaluation of progress may have some connection to Trump's "Make America great again" slogan which refer to the "great" time in the 1960s before the rise of globalization. The current populist movement in other nations has this similar anti-globalization goal.
