Translation: a post where a guy assumes he knows a lot just because he's in the industry. He also assumes a lot about me. Fails at both.

Highlighted: In what world does that make a single lick of sense? No seriously, id expect a guy who's made the industry his career to have a single iota of a clue of what he's talking about, but nhhhh just ignore him. It's not like this is his job or anything, he just "assumes' he knows what he's talking about."

That has got to be one of the most headscratching things i've ever read.

If my comments on animation industry are not up to par, and apparently I "fail", three words:

PROVE.
ME.
WRONG.

it shouldn't be hard right? after all I "failed at it". should be easy come on. enough of the half-assed one sentence comments with no iota of research from you.

With half-assed tactics, and general statements like that you would never win a debate. Not because you don't want to (which usually comes next in the line of cliches uttered by the defeated) but because you CAN NOT.

I implore you. put your research where your mouth is.
- I have done the math on the polls
- I have done the grunt work to learn about the industry and be a part of it

What do you have? what have you done?
insane levels of cognitive dissonance, and that's all. I hold true to my convictions with evidence, and knowledge. You've nothing.

I gleefully await your reply.

Oh, the polls are complete dog shit and Tumblr pushed YoI further than I thought it should get. But nothing from KyoAni was on there, so I thought the category was doomed from the start. Hell, the Best Couple has second place being two people who aren't a couple in the anime. And guess what? Neither is Rem and Subaru. That should have told you to not take the results so seriously from the start.

As for winning and losing, there won't be any. We have differing ideas of how art works. You choose "best" based on several real technical aspects. I feel an important part of whether or not animation is good or not should be based on the impact it has on the person who takes it in. That's where I've come to see that we will never see eye to eye.

if backpedaling were an Olympic sport you'd get a 10/10.

your explanation for "good animation" however is the same nonsense you said before. Ive made it clear. there ARE criteria for it. Stop pretending there arent, or that it's entirely subjective. it is not. Ive given you the list of criteria. you ignored it. The way you see it is broken, and utterly lacking as an actual position therefore should not be taken seriously.

that is all from me for this night

Congrats to Yuri On Ice. Seriously. While I don't personally feel that it deserved to win everything it did, I don't really object to it winning.

The issues with these awards were not YoI fans or the ever scapegoated tumbler users. The issues were created by and fostered along by CrunchyRoll. They were the ones who governed the nomination process. They were the ones who had their judges nominate shows before the season even ended. They were the ones who tried to pass off a popularity contest as a Best Of awards. They were the ones who only added write-ins as a last minute band-aid due to all of the flack they were getting. They were the ones who used a broken voting system that allowed a fan base to mobilize like it did (and it could have been anyone for any show, not just YoI). They were the ones who didn't actually publicly address all of the concerns and complaints that their own registered users had .Etc.

Kudos to CR for trying something new and I hope they do it again, but they really need to learn some very obvious lessons from this year if they're going to try. Frankly, it won't be hard for them to improve next year.

Honestly, as salty as YOI won, let them keep their reward and spread their pride whatever they like. Let it represent how unfair the CR Awards really is and hope they'll try better next time. I'm no homophobe but anything gay doesn't automatically make it great as to identity politics.

As a final note, I want to thank Lorreen for taking my troll comment too seriously with all due respects. kek #MakeCRSafeAgain

btw most of Rule 3 is total crap just like the CR Awards. Again, do it right next time.

Of course YOI won. Every social media post from then was shoving it down our throats. Even in the news section any excuse to reference it was made... It winning was weighted and one inevitabld despite Re-Zero being a much more popular show... YOI was the FOTM just as the polls were hitting.

I don't blame the show (it's not a bad show, in fact it's a good one, just not anime of the year... All critics agree on this) but CR messed up in style here and the backlash needs to never be repeated. Even the staff were weary before the show.

On bright side though YOI winning was a great middle finger to right wing bullcrap and scum making up the western world these days where Boris Johnson, Nigel Farage and Donald Trump made history which appalled anyone with common sense the world over. Seriously 2016 was a year of Brexit and electing billionaire womanising lunatics yet a Yaoi ice skating show won anime of the year... Gay ice skaters won a popularity vote. It's just as shocking to non-anime fans to fathom as brexit and trump winning was. Unless your biased and just feel "bad things come in threes"

They have won the battle, but not the war. Allahu Akbar

To anyone who think I didn't watch it, I actually watched the dub and it was great. Again, it doesn't deserve to win it imo.

you got an anime popular for about 15 weeks,:

we memed a man into president. and pissed off the entire political left in the process..... we BROKE The entire western hemisphere, and your only contingency prize is that it upset liberals and conservatives alike? all the while flaunting some arrogant political manifesto that equates to "people who vote on the right are scum"? (lets ignore Japan's extremely conservative leanings that value hard work over fee fees). I am SO glad that that the orange one is in the oval office, and it seems as if the political left has learned NOTHING from their crushing defeat. Otherizing the opposition to equate to scum, or nazis, or whatever have you, only serves to highlight your side's ignorance and bias on politics, and political leanings. But hey I take umbridge in the fact that I would take a "womanizer" in the office any day over a dishonest shill with no actual platform aside from "the polls say" and the maniacal ramblings of her puppet-master, a billionaire named Soros who unethically shadow governs Korea and holds extreme globalist ties but couldnt get into Russia hence advocating for a no-fly zone that could have easily gotten us all killed via 'cold-war era'-tier proxy war.

Twas an honor being a deplorable, now get your ham-fisted politics out of my anime.

Sincerely; a right-leaning centrist.

You were delighted you memed a lunatic into office - I stopped taking you serious so soon into your post... Your all as mad as he is. I've never voted to break something, change yes but break? Good god, I'm glad YOI winning pissed you off so much because at least that means I take your opinion as highly as you take your politics.

Anyway yes back to the anime, my one true escape from the farcities of society, farcities I find even here it would appear...

Yoi's victory was unfair. Plain and simple. I dont like the show, but i dont believe it's without it's merits and those should be recognized, HOWEVER to say it deserves to win as many awards as it did in the categories it did is absolute BOLLOCKS. now worry not im not saying that's your position as you've made it clear it's not,.

though there is one thing we can agree on, anime is awesome, and an incredible escape from the insanity of reality. This is why, despite my toung-in-cheek comments about "filthy casuals" I actually have no disdain for people to enjoy a show regardless of it's critical quality (Hell, i still like Highschool of the Dead, I loved it ever since it first came out when I was in 11th grade, and that show is pretty terrible). there's nothing wrong with liking or loving something that's flawed. there is plenty wrong when it wins categories it SHOULDNT despite those flaws.

And as an animator: yes, YoI winning best in animation will forever make me saltier than the wreck of a Morton Company truck in the Dead Sea.

I am less disappointed by YOI winning then the fact it was nominated for best couple when they were never truly a couple, best animation when in reality is hard to compare it to the some of the other category, and best ending when is clearly 100% is not.
