Let's say someone brutally hurts or kills your loved one, does that person deserve to die or rot in jail? Which do you choose?

Die, just as brutally.

Jail really isn't is bad as people think it is and most of the time prison is more comfortable than being in jail.

I don't think they'd necessarily "deserve" to die, but I'd likely want them to. Whether their deaths occur in or out of prison wouldn't make much of a difference, to me. If the person isn't a psycho, there'd have to be one hell of a good explanation for me to not wish for vengeance.

I'm going to vote "Other" --
My mother was murdered when I was 13 by one of her friends. I just wanted her to serve the time that the judicial system gave her and then try to reestablish her life. She's free now (as of about two years ago). I'm hoping that she lives the rest of her life without any resistance or ever have the urge to harm someone else.

I'd want them to die if they took someone precious away from me.

A US supermax is probably worse than death, so it depends on what type of jail.

So rot in jail?
I feel like murdering a murderer would just make you a murderer. It isn't really an end to discord. Some people are non-correctable yes, but what makes a good person? What makes a bad person? The choice defines your morality. Evil was once good, however, "evil" robs us of the depth that led those people to those circumstances and since we do not know the full story of their life, playing god with that lack of knowledge would be irresponsible. It doesn't mean that we have to tolerate that behavior, but it is vital in order for the well being of the world to not react equally with negative events. A world of strife is not a world I would want to live in, nor do your children or grandchildren. Learn from your ancestors mistakes.
