Navy or royal blue.
I have a couple ink wells so I have some choice between the two.

I do a lot of contract work and since the print is mostly in black and occasionally red I always use blue. It's something I learned in school. Always use a different colour pen than the contract's print. Of course, that was back in the days before electronic contracts and was intended as a security measure to make it harder to forge your signature on contracts.

Pilot Iroshizuku Yama-Budo, J. Herbin Rouille d'Ancre, J. Herbin Poussiere de Lune, and De Atramentis Herbs de Provence.

All of the above are purple except for the last one, which is green.

Pens:
Pilot Cavalier, Metropolitan/Cocoon, Prera; Lamy Logo

Cocoon is the Japanese name for the Metropolitan. They have different colors in Japan, too.

And yes, you can use plain black ink.... though I don't know why you'd want to...

I'm a fan of rainbow colors, as long as they aren't too bright of course. I want to be able to read what I write in the future sort of thing.

Usually blue because it's the ones we have lying around, but I much rather use pencils, and even when I gotta use pens, I tend to like it being colorful so yea. Pencil is used way more often, blue pens bc they're what I have, and colorful ones when I can get my hands on 'em (lil sister steals my colored pens so I've given up on them whenever I'm home)
