Just a random question, What was the first series you ever owned back when things called VHS Tapes existed?? Just curious as to where everyone started. Let's stick with series cuz I'm pretty sure most of us probably started with either early Ghibli, Akira, Ghost in the shell, Ninja Scroll, or Demon / Wicked City. If u were watching Anime back then chances are one of those got you hooked.

My dad's first series is still his favorite of all time. Crying Freeman, I wonder how many people have even heard of it.

My first series was the original12 eps ( 2 per VHS, ) Guyver OVA series. Still one of my favorites today, and sadly without owning an Original copy and a VCR you can't watch it properly. ( got re released on DVD a few years later but had a few minor changes, which to most isn't a big deal but if you've seen the original it matters.) At least youtube still has the 2nd ED which is too good. https://youtu.be/SxlOO_3wI4U

What can I say I'm in a nostalgia mood

I think my first anime VHS was Area 88.

I actually still have Fire Emblem, Fatal Fury, and Gundam Wing on VHS.

The only anime I owned on vhs was some episodes of Anpanman that a Japanese friend taped of the tv and gave to me. It had the commercials as well as a the episodes, which were more entertaining than Anpanman was.

So... am I imagining the solid black 20" cube of tapes against the wall over there? What about these two "VCR" things to my right? Some kind of Steins;Gate time machine? Ah yes, it is a time machine. :)

My family never bought any TV series on VHS, but I definitely have some of the original Toonami and G4 in that cube. (It's about 1/3 what I had before I started sorting through them for salvage)

Generally speaking, I missed out on the classics, but it's never too late. Last year I watched the original Space Battleship Yamato and UC Gundam series for the first time and loved them. Currently watching Rose of Versailles, as one does.

Yes. First anime I owned was Ranma 1/2. But just the first season. I still laugh like a loan at the first season of Ranma 1/2, but not as much as the later seasons since Happosai is annoying as hell and I am ancient.

I started watching anime before VHS was even invented...

"8 Man" - "8th Man" in the US - was shown on a few US stations back in 1965, and I was lucky enough to see it before they took it off the air.

One of the local stations also showed "Alakazam the Great" every Thanksgiving for a number of years in the 1960s and 70s.

I'm not old, but I used to own some Speed Racer VHS tapes. My sister has all the episodes of Sailor Moon on VHS too. They're in Japanese though.

Not that old, but for the first years(about age 5-6) I got the Pokémon anime for VHS, only the first 9 eps or something though, so we obviously stopped buying them after 2-3 VHS copies.

The First Anime I actually owned on VHS was Gundam Wing, I remember loving that anime in high school, other than that I had to just watch my anime on tv when ever it aired cause it was really rare to find an Anime on VHS any where, a friend of mine had to get me the VHS to it,
