More special shorts like this and Yurio might be able to carry a season.
I'm all for that.

Where does one watch that Yurio special? Was it something packed with the DVD/BDs?

With the 6th DVD/BD. As it's only about 2 minutes long, fans have posted it many places.
I dare say Yurio's not 15 any more.

I believe an OVA is needed between the two seasons (e.g., a "vacation" for the characters) to maintain interest.

Yuri Plisetsky is a catalyst character -- he couldn't carry a whole season.

Considering that he's a teenager.....and this is anime....yeah, he totally could carry a season.

As mentioned previously, in order to carry an entire season, Plisetsky would require a story bridge to create character conflict. From the visuals in "Welcome to the Madness" (the title of the short), you have to wonder how he arrived at that point with Otabek. A few more shorts explaining that progression and we could very well have the foundation of another wonderful season.

Btw, the YOI fanbase is awesome in providing fertile ground for the seeds of creativity.

54bubbles wrote:IMO, this past season did not leave enough character conflict for Yurio to carry a second season as the protagonist. Yes, the writers could develop him further, but I think he would still fall short. He needs either a movie in between seasons to jumpstart character conflict, or the patience to become MC in a season three (? ).

Nogara-san wrote: Also, for an idea: Winter Olympics? Victor and Yuri do their thing while Grumpy Tiger does his.....

A season two, if it happens, would be after the movie and unfortunately the 2018 Winter Olympics. It's still a possible goal for the skaters leading up to 2022, but that would depend on us fans to carry the interest that far. (no slacking here!)

I saw someone on Tumblr mention a good possible plot point for Yurio. Remember he made a comment along the lines of "I only have a small window before my body changes." If he were to get a sudden growth spurt (which is possible considering 15/16-year-old guys can grow like weeds), it would completely affect the way he skates. His center of gravity would change, he would have to re-learn jumps, etc. It would be very emotionally taxing on him as you can imagine. Him winning gold and breaking world records in his debut to the senior division, and then struggling the following year because he had a growth spurt... that could maybe make for some interesting character development for Yurio.

Good point! That would certainly be a struggle. Otabek is three years older and likely at the end of of his growth spurt. If it were a subplot I can just imagine the tensions a feisty tiger would generate from that adjustment period.

Still want to know how Yurio went from darling world champ to that tempest flirting with Otabek... =^•-•^=

Spin-off story about JJ would be all I'd be interested in.

Or maybe we go thru Yuri P's journey of reaching the top at a World Championship? Like someone said, Yuri P would need some development to be a MC...

Yuri and Victor's arc has not finished, they still have much to do, and the focus should be on them. Yurio will be the grumpy angsty turd that he is, and JJ will come back and knock him down a peg next season, JJ style.
