From the stories of Marxists and other anti-Capitalist resistance, hiding a scar is the same thing as letting a criminal escape responsibility from their crimes; it give a false sense of peace while allowing the same scar to occur again. In Capitalist folktales, the invisible hand protect 'good' people from scars so a person can be 'good' by abandoning their scars and let the invisible hand stop the scar from happening again. A Capitalist elaborate on their folktales: they claim that a person cannot expose their scars since it signify their unwillingness to realize their hidden omnipotent so they can become an overpowered character and overcome all hardships in life.
The anime called Angel Beats, Kanon, Air, and Zetsuen No Tempest did cover this theme.
I know about such relevant stories from Native American children who suffer from the residential schools in Canada. The residential schools is secretly inspired by the Nazi Germany death camps and Nazi scientists where hired after WW2 in there to conduct illegal experiments on Native American children. There is also modern stories of white autistic children in Western world who suffered from the 'black racism' in Neo-Nazi trojan horse schools. In this Neo-Nazi schools, some immigrants participate in the 'black racism' from blackmailing or from the promise of full citizenship. There are also stories from citizen in third world who suffer from Neo-Colonialism and need to immigrant to Western world to find a living.

I would want to lighten them, not get rid of them. They only bother me when they are bright pink instead of faded white ones.

It would depend if it was meaningful then I'd keep it.

I was pushed down the stairs by my uncle when I was 5. I busted my head open and I have this huge scar on my forehead that's barely visible now but I'm still self-conscious about it. I think it's a good reminder that you can't trust anyone, no matter how close they are to you, even if you look up to them and have wanted to be like them for most of your life.

There are plenty of bumps, bruises, nicks, scrapes, etc. from work or just living I could do without

Anything bigger I think I'd like to keep. But interestingly, the closes thing I have to those (remains from several sets of stitches, a cut on my eye) have healed over time.

I want more scars.. Every scar a story, a memory. Not much worse than to be wounded without the pleasure of a scar.
