Really looking forward to the release of these two movies, especially when/if they hit local theatre. Anyone else looking forward to either of what is sure to be masterpieces of 2017? koe-no-katachi (silent voice) or kimi-no-na-wa (your Name)

I should persuade my sisters to watch A Silent Voice. I really need a redemption movie these days.

If I'm not mistaken "your name" blew away every anime movie ever made, in terms of earnings. So it's safe to assume that it will be successful in the west too.

I read koe no katachi and loved it; although the ending wasn't that great.
I don't know anything about "your name", since I didn't want to spoil myself.

I'm probably looking forward more to the latter, since I don't know it's story and based on the reviews it should live up to it's hype.

I for one really enjoyed "Your name" if nothing else the artwork of the author is always pleasing to the eye.

Koe no Katachi, me parece que tuvo un mayor impacto en el corazón de los televidentes, sin quitarle meritos a kimi no na wa que fue una pelicula espectacular

Agreed, it resonates far more on an emotional level. Both are great films, well written and produced, but I don't think I could watch Koe no Katachi in a movie theater with so many other people around.

I love both of them. I think Koe no Katachi was a little better, but not much honestly they were both fantastic.

I've watched both movies and was actually disappointed in Your Name. Everything was pretty decent until halfway through the movie.. then it kind of added some stuff out of left field that didn't make any sense and wasn't explained. Animation is pretty, though.

A Silent Voice was stunning. It was a very long movie, but I never once felt that feeling of... "Is this ever going to end?". I was entranced by the animation (which I find better than Your Name in some aspects), the realistic plot, and the fact that it had something in there for people to learn from.

So, Koe no Katachi hands down.

Just watched both and I basically agree with this. Most importantly, Your Name was plot-driven, despite not looking like it. Its main attraction was its fantasy plot, and that really goes a bit off the rails in the second half, abusing my suspension of disbelief. As a result, the characters are left on the side and barely sketched, especially the male protagonist. On the other hand, Koe no Katachi is a deep, well-written character study which explores some actually very uncomfortable places of our souls and doesn't shy away from some ugly realities (like what pushes people to bully), and instead of taking the easy way out with its answers it really digs into what makes human relationships tick. So yeah, in the end, it feels superior. I also appreciated that, compared to the manga, it felt to me like it was just the right size - where the manga sort of dragged out due to its serialised nature.

Having seen both movies, I liked both and think both are worth watching. Having said that, I think Kimi no Na Wa had the better visuals and music, but Koe no Katachi had the better story. The Koe no Katachi movie was good as a standalone, but the manga was still better since some important stuff gets left out so it's also worth checking out

I loved your name, I'm not too interested in A Silent Voice because I tried out the manga and after some point I couldn't stand the behavior/gaffes...
