I'm from America but want to at LEAST visit England. I would just like some things confirmed for me, please:

-I've heard there's rarely much sun?
-On the BBC Network, there's a lot of Doctor Who, but that's the only channel I'm allowed on my TV. What else is usually on? I've also heard that there aren't many British television shows starring teenagers, like how Nickelodeon and Disney channel do. Peaches Geldof is the closest I've come, and she's not exactly a positive role model.
-I've heard interracial dating is more common there than it is here, and that some can look out onto the streets and see a couple going by?

And, please - every time I ask something about England, many people end up bashing America in their response - "In America, you put those stupid little girls on TV all of the time and think that's normal. Our channels are more refined." I don't like that I have to mention it, but I do. Look anywhere on Yahoo! Answers and you'll see what I mean. I came here for unbiased answers in attempt to decrease my ignorance and trusted I'd get a fair reply.

- Compared to some places, our climate is pretty cool and rainy, but saying sunshine is rare is an exaggeration. In Spring and Summer (and early Autumn) we tend to have plenty of sun, though the temperature varies. British humor tends to be pretty self-deprecating, and insisting we have gloomy weather all the time is part of that.

- A good majority of our TV is either aimed at adults- and therefore lacking teenagers- or imported from America or Australia. On the main channels, daytime TV is mainly talkshows, reruns, documentaries and educational programmes. The afternoons usually have shows aimed at kids, and evenings have soaps and drama. Of course, there are also more specialized channels, but they tend to lack British shows, and access to them varies, as most are only available through expensive satellite services.

There are a couple of things made over here that star teenagers, but less than there used to be, oddly.

- I don't know how common interracial couples are elsewhere, but no, it's not really uncommon over here.

A brief response:

Weather - Undependable. Generally nicer down south than it is here up north.
TV - Varies in quality, generally advisable to get Sky or somesuch if you actually want to find something decent to watch. Expect lots of American shows too.
Interracial dating - Depends where you are. Cities tend to be far more free thinking in that regard. Up here in the north, outside of cities, there's now quite a lot of racial tension, and where I live especially beating white women for dating Indian/Arabic men, or Indian/Arabic women for dating white men is disgustingly common. Human filth are everywhere and come in all shapes and colours, I guess.

In short, there's no definite rule. Largely depends on where you go, and luck of the draw. I'd venture that this isn't perhaps the best place to live, but it's a beautiful country to visit on holiday. Everything from rich history and historical buildings, to rolling, shire-like countryside.

I'm thankful all of the answers had things in common. I don't like the sun too much, and it sounds like even though you aren't void of it, I can expect a lot less than I do living where I am now.

As for television, I don't have cable anymore regardless. I have 2 channels for kids (no reality shows or comedy..but I like cartoons more,) and the rest are old TV shows, news, soaps..not too different, actually. I'll keep in mind that a satellite might be useful to me. ^^

Lastly, I've never been anywhere in America where I've seen interracial dating fairly often. Again, seems like it's the same - I might see more in certain locations, less in others.

Thanks for answering them all truthfully and not like arrogant assholes. Was a huge help.

I live in England but in a small town which is okay because I prefer living in a city, I do wish the weather would be a bit nicer during the winter and that the number of chavs would be reduced and I found this about where I live and it's surprisingly accurate. http://mirror.uncyc.org/wiki/Scunthorpe

I like England and its surrounding countries. Maybe Ireland not that much since I don't know it nearly as much.

I can see why someone would want to leave England and to the states from a cultural perspective. But other than that I think England is a great nation.
