Entry by email could complicate things significantly anyway.

I realize this, but I have my own reasons for not wanting to sign up for most social media, since I'm not a social media person. I won't sign up for FaceBook because their privacy policies suck. And I really don't need to waste time on Twitter and Instagram if I don't want to be on them. I know that I could make an account on Twitter to be able to enter the contests that way, but in the past they've made it where you could enter them with email as well, so I don't understand why they couldn't have made it where you could enter these giveaways through email as well. Just this past October I think it was, they had a Bungo Stray Dogs contest where you had to enter through email for it.

They have their own contest email.

The post above says several times you need only be Premium. Which one is correct?

I just checked and it does say that in the official rules. So, are regular Premium Members allowed to enter that contest too? I'd really like to know since it 's like the one thing I can enter without needing to use social media.

First, regarding social media: If it helps, Twitter is probably the easiest of them to set up. I set mine up in the middle of an English Lit class on someone else's phone. But if you don't want to use it you don't want to use it, fair enough. As to why they aren't allowing email, these are my thoughts on the issue; basically for the contests on Twitter and Instagram, what they'll do is just search for the CRMillion hashtag, scroll down and then select an entry at random. Simple. This is especially true for the two contests where there's only two prizes available, to me that pretty much means they'll choose one winner from Instagram and one from Twitter. If you throw email into the mix as well, the reality is that there'd be far fewer entries by email, so it wouldn't be particularly fair for them to do a 3rd prize for email entries (since people who participated by email would have a much higher chance of winning). In order to avoid this, they'd have to manually copy out the name of every email sender, twitter user and instagram user who participated into a spreadsheet or something and then select from there. It just complicates things a lot whilst expecting those without social media accounts to have to make them is significantly easier on their part. View this how you will.

As regards the Premium+ thing for the Japan trip, I don't think that's really the case. When they first started the Japan-trip giveaways, they were for Premium+ members only, and I expect they just haven't altered the T&Cs from the original contest to match the terms for this new one.

Edit::

FYI, the link above for the "Anime Entertainment Bundle Contest Official Rules" is broken.

Where can we find the official rules for the Entertainment Bundle?

Thanks

Oh what about those who don't have an Instagram or twitter account? I am a premium member and I don't want to create an account just to enter the contest. Also, I am not a citizen of one of the countries selected for the contest but I am legally living in the USA so I don't even know if I am eligible or not. Anyways, Congratulations for reaching 1 million premium members people. To be honest, I am a bit disappointed that people like myself who don't have social media ( twitter, Instagram) are left out.

It only takes a moment to create one! I definitely encourage it so you can participate too ~

Legal residents of the US are eligible for all promotions.

Might want to change this under the Eligibility Rule for the Japan trip then: Each Entrant must be a Premium Plus member of the online community Crunchyroll.com.

Still sore that you won't give us non-social media users a way to enter all of the contest giveaways. Some of us just don't like or want to use social media.

The Japan trip giveaway contest is only giving away two trips and the official rules have an email that you send the pictures or videos to to enter it as well as through Twitter or Instagram, so they don't need to give away a third prize for everything to be able to include email as a way to enter the contests as well. In the past they have done contests where you could enter by email, Facebook or Twitter, so obviously they have a way of figuring out if there are double entries from people or not through different platforms. Most people use the same email to set up all of those things, so they can just cross reference that with the email associated to their Crunchyroll account. I'm just mad that they're not giving their Premium Members who don't use social media a way to enter these giveaways, yet some of us are who helped them get to that one million paying users mark, so it feels like we're being left out.

Well, they need to update it so there isn't any confusion then.

This is great, one of my goals is to go to japan. The only problem there is money.
Too bad the stuff you have to do to win is kinda cringey.

KnightmareFrame9: The discounted items will be available starting tomorrow through next weekend!!

I hope this clears up some questions ~

Just want to jump in and say thanks for working this out.

I'm more than willing to give CR crap when it does things wrong (like the Ad-wards debacle, the near constant US only slant and the frequent decision to exclude subscribers from contests), but I'm also happy to chime in when they do something right.

Having to have a social media account (NOT a social media presence) is a small price to pay and it does help control entries somewhat. And actually making the two biggest contests subscriber only? Excellent choice.

So yeah, thanks for taking the steps to make this possible.

My one complaint would be that the selection of on sale items in the store for the 30% off is pretty poor but that's maybe more personal preference than anything.

Sorry, I must not have been very clear; I wasn't trying to say anything about double entries, I was trying to say about how awkward it would be to choose TWO winners from THREE different sources, i.e. they would have to compile all entries into a single list in order to fairly pick two winners at random (not to ensure no one entered more than once). If they didn't do this, they would have to make a 'choice' (whether 'randomly' or not) at some point about which one of the three entry-sources not to scroll through and pick a winner from at random.

Scrolling and stopping at random on the winner is the only feasible option besides manually inputting all entries into a single list or randomiser tool. I can't think how you could fairly scroll across all three lists (Twitter, Instagram, Email) simultaneously to choose a single entrant. Thus, just cutting this down to two entry-sources makes this significantly easier, as all they have to do is have an individual prize available for a random winner from each site.

(Hopefully that was a bit more coherent, apologies if I'm still not conveying my point very well)

As for the official rules saying that you can email in your answer, this (probably) completely invalidates the whole issue of what I was trying to describe above (though I still think my point about it being awkward stands). As to why they would only put this in the T&Cs and not elsewhere, the vast majority of people will either have these social media accounts already or be prepared to create them specifically for this purpose.
Alternatively, it IS possible that this is just left over from previous contest T&Cs. Whilst I think this is unlikely, since the paragraph that specifies the email has been definitely changed to suit this specific contest, large portions elsewhere in the T&Cs are clearly unedited (referencing 2015 etc.), so it isn't out of the question that they just Ctrl+F'd through the T&Cs changing certain key words. To be fair who expects them to rewrite the T&Cs every time...

As for them having done email-enterable contests before, this doesn't really change anything about what I was saying, my point is that (if what I proposed is actually how they do it) it just makes everything more awkward to include three sources of entries, so they may have just decided to cut out email entries since they will be in the minority and cause extra work.

Also, just a note, as StriderShinryu says, requiring a social media ACCOUNT is not the same as needing a social media PRESENCE.

Let's see:

Monday: Shipping cost would kill any deals.
Tuesday-Wednesday: Refuses to use social media. [I don't want any and there's nothing any one can do to convince me otherwise.]
Thursday: Not premium right now due to lack of funds and wouldn't have a place to put it, if, by some miracle, actually won.
Friday: Already taken all the time off I plan to this year/Would be hard to get the time off since I plan at the beginning of the year for vacation time/would need funds to buy things while in Japan/have a better chance of getting struck by lightning. Not premium.

In other words: USELESS for me! But, you know what? That's fine. Personally free shipping offers for NON-Premium plus members for 1 day would be more useful. OR discounted memberships like what was done years ago. Those days are probably long gone though.

So, yeah. Nice idea and good luck to all that do enter.

When my funds get more sane I'll be a (normal) premium member again. Maybe when I get my tax refund. (I assume I'll get one. )

I get what you're saying, but I don't see why they can't do exactly that, compile a list of all the entries from social media and email and pick the winners at random from that list. They have in the past, so I don't see why they can't again now. That's the point I've been trying to make. I get why they can't do that with the pizza contest on the first day because of the amount of pizza that they are giving out every hour, but the other giveaways are limited on prizes, so it wouldn't be hard to include email entries to those ones as well.

And I was talking specifically about the T&Cs for the Crunchyroll Trip to Japan Contest in which it states this under Eligibility: 'Each Entrant must be a Premium Plus member of the online community Crunchyroll.com', and this under How To Enter: 'During the Submission Period, post on Twitter or Instagram an image or video with #CRmillion or via email to [email protected] showing how anime makes you feel: crazy, happy, sad or any other crazy emotion(s) you feel when watching anime (“Submission”).' I have not seen mentioned in the T&Cs or contest details a way to enter any of the other giveaways by email, however the only other link for the T&Cs for the contests that's actually working is the Crunchyroll Friends Prize Package where you just have to subscribe to their channel on YouTube and make a comment on the specific video that they mentioned. So, only the trip to Japan contest has mentioned being able to enter by email so far, something they could have easily added to the main post about the contest here, therefore avoiding angering people such as me, and for the other one all they have to add is 'Premium and Premium Plus members' so I don't see how hard it would be to add that to the T&Cs for that contest.

And I realize that you don't need to have a presence on social media to actually have social media, but there are certain social media that I absolutely stay away from because I don't like how they operate, like Facebook.

The reason they do this on Twitter is to get attention. From non-CR people. To be "trending on Twitter". If this was "legitimate thank you", such considerations would not be had. Just another reason I continue to say CR is evil, of course....

I don't have an account with any of the soical media a n d most importatnly I don't want one either, I'm not letting them on my computer. what is on my computer is my business and I'm not here for their enjoyment or money making oppurtunities, if they want that, they gotta pay for it.

This is an absolute crime. I've been a cr prem. member for years

but I'm not joining anything other then "you tube" or "twitch".

I shouldn't have to join them to enter either!

Your incorrect about social media, once you have an account you have presence with them, and they make sure to get everything out of your computer they can. for advertising and media use they can and you can be sure you will see ads because you joined! not to meniton all the statistic's they will get on you, in the future as well every time you turn on your computer ..

Only the Tuesday contest? What does this mean exactly?

Cause I wanted to at least join the Friends Prize Bundle contest but it's not available in the country I'm living in. Checking the Official Rules for it, it says:

The following promotion is intended for participants in the United States (i.e. including Washington, D.C. and excluding Guam, Puerto Rico and all other U.S. territories and possessions), Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Argentina, Bahamas, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Trinidad & Tobago, Uruguay, Germany and France only and shall be construed and evaluated according to the laws of United States (i.e. including Washington, D.C. and excluding Guam, Puerto Rico and all other U.S. territories and possessions), Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Argentina, Bahamas, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Trinidad & Tobago, Uruguay, Germany and France, respectively, Do not proceed in this promotion if you are not a legal resident of United States (i.e. including Washington, D.C. and excluding Guam, Puerto Rico and all other U.S. territories and possessions), Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Argentina, Bahamas, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Trinidad & Tobago, Uruguay, Germany and France or if you are not currently located in the United States (i.e. including Washington, D.C. and excluding Guam, Puerto Rico and all other U.S. territories and possessions), Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Argentina, Bahamas, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Trinidad & Tobago, Uruguay, Germany and France.

I live in the Philippines and I'm not a Premium member and such. I can't join any of these. :(

I feel kinda sad not being able to join these stuff. The prizes seem really cool, too.
