And don't worry, we wouldn't ask you to rush with your choices on what gender pronouns you want us to call you by.

Awww, I'm trying to keep Judar's sex a veritable secret for a while longer, to keep the parade going. Oh, well...

On Topic:

Dark_Alma - There's some bias because he's a bit of a nerd when it comes to his field (geology) - just like I'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to mathematics and programming. He tries to be a voice of reason when he jumps into threads (even political ones).

There's more - most of which have been mentioned already. Thanks for throwing me on the list a few times!

I am not worthy of the praise. I am generally just trolling around unless I see a well written and credible sourced thread. I am hoping with the new forum guidelines we will see more stuff I can take seriously!

Most of the time if I see something sourced like NewsHub2017/wooo.com or whatever I just end up joking around on the thread. Most people just don't want to put in the time or effort to find/read a research paper or journal (not to mention every damn one I link is pay-gated, I get them free due to my University).

I don't think you have really seen me messaging seriously. I did about 1.5 years back before it became a bit more cancerous. I think the more... chaotic era started with a user who has been perma banned. After that a few new vocal ones came up and... CR changed a bit.

Looking at the new threads after the change though... I HAVE HOPE!

I already know Judar's gender. Dare I say, Judar is one of the most attractive people I have seen. (Yes, Judar doesn't lie.)

And here I was thinking the Onee-sama route wasn't up your alley.

No, it is not. I can admit attraction without having an expressed sexual arousal for said person.

1) Runec - I have a respect for Runec that goes beyond that of his intellect and obvious political alignment with my own. It has to do with his sense of humor. It is easy to get wrapped up in the political hyperbole but often the lightheartedness he brings to the table brings us back to reality. It's a nature that I think is overlooked in the boards. At the end of the day, we are all people with our own concerns. His personality is one that reminds us of this. Comedy is a language that overcomes boundaries.

2) octorockandroll/PeripheralVisionary/Ninjitsuko - Reletively centered scholars of debate. These three have their leanings but I'd consider them to be the ones to listen to if you want a stance that isn't subterfuge and is well defended.

3) auroroloose - Strictly speaking, probably the most educated and intelligent person on the boards that I have seen. I think a lot of what she says goes over a portion of the community without understanding.

4) Akagechan - Though we disagree firmly on a lot of stances I can't deny the fact that she reasons well and she isn't afraid to defend herself academically. I have the utmost respect for what she does.

5) qwueri - Also an intelligent member who I respect a lot. Seems to be well grounded and always has great things to say on the issues that I think go unnoticed a lot of the time.

I think it's worth mentioning that there are a lot of you on the boards that I respect that disagree with me that I didn't list here. I may not convey it how I want to a lot of the time but I enjoy reasoned argument and defense of that argument. What gets me angry is blind disagreement with no attempt to come to an acknowledgement of validity and concern for specific issues. We all want to be right, myself included, but I think we should remember that we are all human. We all have rights that we want respected and futures that are bright. We all make mistakes because we are human. When you acknowledge that you can be wrong and more than likely you are things begin to look a bit differently. It becomes a matter of conversation rather than teaching. I will personally try to employ this attitude more in my debating.

Meh, I'm neither particularly intelligent nor reasonable. If I get the feeling a conversation is moot, I stop bothering.

*blushes* aww, thanks people.

I have trouble ranking people, as I take things too seriously, and there are too many ways people can be great. So I'll create a couple tiers:

Tier 1: BlueOni and PrinceJudar

PrinceJudar has made the most thought-provoking threads I've seen; he/she/it engages in those threads genuinely listening to and wanting to learn from people, and has plenty to teach in her/his own right. Those threads have allowed me to achieve the two goals I had for starting to post around here - exercising my own thinking, and learning new ideas from other people. It was PrinceJudar's Reason thread where I came up with the idea for my status (which I will probably never change). All writing is indeed masturbatory.

I can't think of an anime where this happens, but imagine you're the protagonist, and you're walking through the city. There are lots of pedestrians, and everyone looks about the same - but then you notice: amidst all those normal faces, one normal face in particular - that person is is incredibly powerful. You've never met that person, but you know the two of you will fight - and that arc will be the show's climax. That person is BlueOni. Every sentence she writes is saturated with her intelligence - you can tell. I don't know how in-depth she has trained in the humanities; I'm a scientist, and studying the humanities is just a hobby of mine. So I'm not qualified to size her up. She could be using only 1% of her power, and I wouldn't have a clue.

Tier 2

I haven't been here long enough to notice if these people belong in Tier 1, and I don't think I could rank them. They're people who have said at least a few impressive things I happened to notice; in no particular order:

marykathryn (just appeared in the "Artificial Consciousness is Impossible" thread and was automatically a boss)
Nanikore2 (knows philosophy)
ninjitsuko (Gets it.)
PeripheralVisionary (yes, you get to be here)

I can't help but notice the leftists are propping up their leftist clique....

I totally do not see them as reasonable. Not at all. Not just because of their politics, but because of how invective their attacks on the characters of people with opposing political views as theirs. Not at all reasonable.

Just saying.
