See opening post for new info. We've put our comments policy into writing.

Main points:

- Don't post guest passes in comments, use The Official Guest Pass Thread in the Anime forum instead.

- Don't post spoilers from original sources such as manga, light novel, etc. at all (not even if you mark as spoiler)

(Yeah, I know, double post. Sometimes they do make sense.)

Replies that were not related to the updates have been deleted. Please use the Suggestions / Feedback forum if you have suggestions for forum or comment features

-shrugs- Those new rules seem silly to me. I don't think lot of people want to memorize all those rules, or even write down on note pad just to reminded them not to break those rules! XD

Are those new and old rules are necessary? :/

I wish Janus Cascade from Wild Arm III come alive from the game and explain why those rules are not needed! :p Right Karkarov?

I like these changes, especially the one about sexual PMs. That's not something that should have to be cracked down on but apparently that's just reality.

Guest Pass codes should not be posted in comments. They are considered off-topic and, because they are used so quickly, they become clutter almost instantly. They also tempt people to read comments before watching an episode, which increases the chances they'll encounter minor spoilers. To give away guest passes please use The Official Guest Pass Thread "stickied" near the top of the Anime forum.

Context: When I watch an episode of something and I have a pass I leave it there in the comment section because I was thinking someone else might like it who would by natural means end up on that episode's page; reading the comments.

With the rule I now have to flip to that thread and the finally make a post to share the guest pass.

In reality if we are no longer allowed to use the comments for it then can we as paying members request that we do not receive those passes any more as they have come a chore and a nuisance; something I would rather then do without.

Update:
Added TOS/FAQ
Next step is to request to have them removed from my profile.

Nuisance?

My guest passes pile up in my account until they expire and I don't even notice or care.

You don't HAVE to give them to anyone.

What do you mean by that?

If you have suggestions to make regarding an opt-out option on receiving guest passes to give away, please make it in the Suggestions / Feedback forum. However, I agree with cdarklock that they are pretty easy to ignore. You can just let them sit and expire and never look at your guest pass page. You can also turn off guest pass notifications here: /acct/?action=notifications

I realize why some people like to use the comments for posting guest passes. However there are also people who like to visit comments in order to read comments about the show (after all, that's what the comments are really for), and do not enjoy having to wade through (sometimes pages of) guest pass comments. If you are looking at recent episodes of two very popular shows and don't see the "pages of guest passes" problem, that is only because I've been proactive about deleting them, which frankly, has been taking up quite a bit of my time--especially on weekends.

Why was this moved to miscellaneous? I haven't seen anyone talking about this. I never saw any threads or mod comments giving notice of this happening either.

Was this soft censorship to get touchy threads off the main page? This move pulls attention and concern away from these topics by removing their visibility and calling them "miscellaneous." It all feels rather shitty.

Which is a reasonable request like being able to opt out from them. Noted.

Yes, a decision was made to no longer feed "General Discussion" to the home page, and as I understand it, it was necessary to rename the category in order to make that happen. I don't have any details beyond that -- the timing of it was a surprise to the moderators also. While many users had requested it and there had been some conversations among mods and our CR handler about such a possibility a while ago, we were only notified of the decision to go ahead with it shortly after it actually happened.

One thing to keep in mind is that Crunchyroll is primarily an anime site, which also has some manga. It makes sense to keep those the focus of the forums and to present those more strongly on the home page and on the main forum page. It's not a general news or current events site. The General Discussion category (now renamed to Miscellaneous) is more a catch all for other kinds of discussion, including controversial topics and current events, and it didn't really make sense to give it such prominent visibility, since general, miscellaneous conversation is not what Crunchyroll is about as a business.

I'm one of the users that asked for General to not be glued on the main page some months ago, and I support this change. Some kind of user-choice on what to show as the top two might please more people, but this at least serves the purpose of getting inflammatory topics out of the spotlight for an anime site.

Thank god for this change. It gave me a headache to see the cancer that was general discussion on the main page when I just wanted to watch anime.

Granted, other than occasional store purchases, all I really do is stalk the forums, so it's a bit inconvenient to scour CR for the casual forums; however, I don't have much complaint, regarding the new location. That said; I am annoyed with the lack of warning prior to the implementation of this forum change. It reeks heavily of disregard.

This thread feels like a reactionary response to people's confusion, rather than an informational forewarning.

But yeah, I really have no qualms beside that.
