I'm thinking of splurging on a PS4. I own a good gaming PC and Xbox One but there are some exclusives on PS4 I would like to play. However I live in Canada, and the PS4 Pro is a whopping $169.50 more expensive after tax than the PS4 Slim. PS4 Slim is $395.49 after tax with a pack in game and PS4 Pro is $564.99 with no pack in game! Seems kind of steep to me as I could build a very good PC from scratch with that kind of money. So is the Pro really worth it or should I get a Slim? Or should I wait and see if there is a price drop or sale?

Canadian dollar is worth way less than US dollar and across the board it seems like PS4 Pro is 499.99 + 13% tax. I've seen PS4 Slim go on sale for as low as 329.99 plus tax though.

Well, if you don't care about stuff like HDR or streaming in 4K, then go for the regular PS4 or PS4 Slim.

I'm pretty sure the regular PS4 can't do 60 FPS, but the Pro version can.

If the money is there, I say go Pro.

get the PS4 PRO
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2017/02/03/ps4-system-software-update-4-50-features-detailed/

boost mode will help non-pro patched games run better as well.. so more value for the system

digital foundry tested it.. PS4 PRO is worth getting .. if you care about stable frame rate, faster load time and higher resolution for your games

i'm pretty sure the the base ps4 (fat and slim) can do 60 FPS .. but it's not stable

if you want stable 60FPS.. you have to drop the resolution to 900p for some games

the PRO will help reaching the 1080p at FIXED 60 FPS more easily than the base ps4..

for now if you want upscaled 4K gaming on the ps4 pro.. you will be stuck at 30 fps..

native 4K gaming at 60 fps will not be here until the PS5 or so..

i heard PCs still have problem running games in native 4K..

remember.. the pro enhanced games are upscaled (checkerboard to higher resolution).. with most around 1440p-1800p.. with some up to 2160p.

resident evil 7 is 1280p..

the only time i'll call it 4K gaming is when the games are developed at 4K .. not developed at 720p-900p and upscaled from there.. eh.. that's not true 4K.. imo

if you can wait.. i would say black friday-cybermonday of 2017 is the best time to buy

Scorpio should be out by then.. so sony will cut the price to $350.. and since it's black friday the retailer will chop it off even more to $300 also adding in some games for the bundle :)

i got my Ps4 slim uncharted 4 bundle + Deus Ex Mankind Divided + heaset for $195 (newegg/ free shipping no tax)

it's a pretty good deal..

but now i'm changing my mind..

if they have the PS4 pro bundle for $300.. i'll sell my current slim for $200 and just put down an extra $100

i record and upload gameplay videos and 720p is meh quality now a day.. the pro can do 1080p gameplay recording + share play will also be 1080p

I´d get the Ps4 Pro, although I´ve heard devs are having a hard time with optimization due to the improved specs. Might take a while til they hash it all out.

I would say that if you don't already own one then go with the pro. Consider it future proofing because I imagine as the current console cycle continues games will continue pushing the hardware and the difference between a games performance on the standard PS4 versus the Pro will become more apparent.
