people tend to talk about gun control so feel free

the person above brought up a valid point.. but then there are people like these

Open carry fail: Armed gun nuts in body armor arrested at Michigan police station
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVeBN5LizZY

Children with guns: 10-year-old girl gets Beretta shotgun as gift, internet is split
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86xdJH_XprE

I'm also a gun owner (a newbie to be exact- still a horrible shot ) I'll visit the gun range every now and then

I have no comment on parenting issue though.. since if there are mothers who hired a female stripper as a birthday gift for her teenage son vs a parent buying a young child a gun.. eh

It will be a case by case basis for me

I'd argue it is a case of you shouldn't be giving criminals guns legally. While people like Akage pursue a more rule utilitarian route of just giving guns to everyone purely because it would benefit citizens a great deal, I believe the selling of such armaments bear some responsibility, just as stores cannot give alcohol to teenagers, despite there being many "loopholes" (Most are illegal). In essence, even if criminals do get their guns, it shouldn't be as easy as walking into a gun store and procuring it through legal channels. There is a responsibility of the state to practice basic measures

I have no issue with background checks or waiting periods, and this stance I advocate is something that most gun owners agree with here in Virginia.

Guys, this shouldn't be driven to be a political thread. If anything, this was originally designed as a thread for those who are gun hobbyists. Admittedly, dulun18, you did push the political angle when you tried to make a bold statement that isn't factual (while it's subjectively true to your perspective, that doesn't mean that the reality doesn't state otherwise).

How about those who want to have a discussion on social issues regarding legislation around gun ownership, purchasing, and so forth create another thread to discuss it? I know this thread may be hit or miss regarding those who own/use guns regularly but I feel that turning it into a political/social debate will only lead to the feeling that it's not "okay" to discuss owning a gun on this thread.

Just a suggestion, at least.

----

I don't currently own any guns, personally. I grew up around them as my family was a hunting family "back in the day" (my grandfather and uncle are too old to go hunting these days - nor did I retain the desire to hunt). Due to this, I have a fairly extensive history with handguns, rifles, crossbows, and bows. Rather than being hypocritical with my suggestion above, I'm just going to say that I currently do not own any due to personal reasons.

I don't see why one should not give a 10 year old a gun, provided they are properly trained by the parents. I am mostly opposed to the idea of guns in crowded nightclubs that serve alcohol (Except for uniformed Bouncers) and in schools.

Although the stripper thing is infinitely more troubling. Maybe I am just a prude.

I am not sure if businesses have the right to allow or disallow guns. I have no problem with it but the business might see it differently.

No guns in schools? What about the bears man?? They are rampaging across the country killing school kids left and right!!!!!

I thought the term "gun control" was gun politics though. I am not much of a firearm enthusiast myself.

I am not going to discuss Devos in entirety, but just her statement. Apparently, it takes quite a bit of shots from handguns? to drop a full grown bear, albeit guns have grown more powerful in the last few decades. As someone has posted, you're better off with bear spray.

I agree. The very first line of the post is "you can share your gun pictures, shooting ranges, targets, etc.. or gun control" and features a text image that's pretty political. I think it's just as the title says--a general discussion for things related to guns. So hobbyists talking about guns as their hobby (VZ68 where are you?), everybody talking about how they feel about guns in general, or gun control policies, and anything else gun-related seems on-topic to me.

As always, folks just need to stay respectful of one another.

I'm pretty neutral regarding guns and gun control. As with most things I think it's better for things to get worked out based on educating people to points of reasonableness through dialogue and awareness rather than through force of legislation, but I think some legislation does serve a good purpose and can be a pragmatic way both of bringing issues into public discussion and in achieving ends that seem best for community as a whole.

My Dad owned a couple of guns when I was young; he wasn't an enthusiast but went out deer hunting sometimes with his friends. So at that time we all (my sisters and mother and I) learned some basics about how they work and how to use them, including about safety, and we knew where the guns were kept (not locked up, but they also weren't kept loaded) and we also knew to stay away from them and not to play with them. So I've held guns, but never used them and was never much interested in them.

I own a couple of guns, first one I bought was an AK-47 on a whim a couple years back after going to the range with a friend. Then a coworker gave me an old but new(covered in cosmoline) 8mm Turkish Mauser. Then I picked up a mossberg 500 shotgun because it was cheap and had extra money. I want a handgun but my nieces come over to often for me to feel safe having a handgun in the house even with a gun cabinet. I also haven't gone shooting in almost two years. I honestly don't even know why I bought the guns because shooting isn't really my thing lol. Probably because it just seems ridiculous that they would let me buy guns like an AK when I knew nothing about guns seems outrageous. I also don't buy crazy amounts of ammo like some people. I maybe have 200 rounds for each gun and maybe 20 rounds for the Mauser. I have some pics of the AK and the Mauser in my profile.

I never really got the appeal of any of the AK variants floating out there. Having handled more then a few I just don't understand.Especially the earlier variants that fired from an open bolt, what drunken Soviet thought that was a good idea? Not to mention those AK mags with a slot cut into them, hello dirt and misfeed problems galore.

For me nothing can beat the elegance of C14 Timberwolf MRSW. I don't care if I've spent more on it then people do on rising a family. As for Assault Rifles I like call me crazy but the SIG 550-1 was a rifle I fell in love with as well. I wish the CAF had adopted it and it's parent rifle the SIG SG 550 instead of that crap ass M16 clone the C7 as it's main rifle.

Ah the good ole Griever Gunblade from FF8, Squall Leonhart's weapon of choice and his starting gunblade. And I believe the first weapon in the FF series to feature a way to increase it's damage.
