It is a skill based game with artificial story merging "Knights, Samurai and Vikings" in a MOBA sorta PVPgame with PVE campaign. Still trying to figure out it myself.

Tyring to figure out whether faction story reflects (samurai) realistically enough. Also, wondering if u ever get to see anything not armor (like character's unhelmed heads). And what is up with meta story campaign thingee. Or something.

Anyways, if any of u are hard core about thus game, plz tyr to sell me on it. Me surprisingly good mood today. BTW, also open beta now, so I suppose I could test...

No, it's monotonous gameplay will surely bore me to death after the first few hours. I'll pick it up when it goes on sale though, it's just not a full retail game I can get into.

It´s more like a shooter, only with swords. Like Chivalry.

As for the story, it´s alternative world fantasy stuff so don´t expect any historically accurate battles or something.

It´s pretty good I think, kind of like rock-paper-scissors combat, to try and counter and defeat the opponents. I´ve played a decent amount of hours in the closed beta and now the open. I urge you to test the beta this weekend if you´re unsure what it´s about. Hard to say if you´ll love it or hate it.

I personally like it, it´s fun to kill an enemy of equal skill, having to employ some basic tactics. It´s less fun when his teammate decide to rape you from behind but hey, that´s war.

For this game, almost every time I saw developer interviews, they were talking about the gameplay and multiplayer aspects of the game. If I'm not mistaken, even all DLCs are for the multiplayer.

So, if I were you, I wouldn't go into this game expecting a fantastic single player campaign. Although there are exceptions (Titanfall 2 being one), I never expect the single player campaign of any multiplayer focused game to be anything more than a glorified tutorial. Though, it might turn out that this game is one of those exceptions. But, with all betas being multiplayer, there's no way to tell at the moment.

Now if you're in it for the multiplayer, I find it's a great experience. The melee combat mechanics is not something you'll find in any other game. At its most basic level, it might resemble a rock, paper, scissors mechanics. You chose where to attack (light or heavy attacks) or defend (top, left, right), if you attack an unguarded angle, you score a hit (or receive a hit, if you are defending) and you also have the ability to dodge. However, the more familiar you are with the game the deeper it can get, because you also have guard-breaks, feints (you can cancel a heavy attack), counters, and other character specific abilities and combos.

There's an open beta for the multiplayer (with tutorials / bots practice modes) going on at the moment until February 12. If you're interested, you should try it out. Note that in the beta, only 9 out of the 12 launch characters are available.

"For Honor" isn't too bad. It came with my recent purchase of several GeForce GTX 1080 GPUs. I'm getting about 130-150fps and it's pretty amazing (other than the fact that it has mixed 21:9 support - supports it during gameplay but not during menus). I'll do a quick list of things I like/don't like about the game (so far):

  • Story Mode - The story mode seems to be thought out and pretty in-depth. You do get to play as each faction and you gain levels (story only) to unlock different difficulties and the likes.
  • Cheats - On the PC version, there are already cheats out there that seem to work. Automatically blocking and going into instant push/kick back is a pain in the behind on multiplayer mode.
  • Multiplayer Community - So far, I can't say that the experience while in groups has been toxic/negative. It's still early and sometimes it's going to be something that causes the community to self-implode
  • PC Controls - Wow, keyboard/mouse combination is almost atrocious in terms of accuracy and the likes. I've been rocking out with my Playstation 4 controller through Bluetooth USB without any complication.
  • Native Playstation 4 Controller Support - See above - this is the counterpoint. As a PS4 controller user (at times), this is bloody well awesome.

This is just from about 7-8 hours of gameplay in the official game - after having played about 3 hours of the Open Beta.

I really don't see myself buying it, and I'm not sure how much I will even watch of it. At least so far there isn't really much variety or depth on display from the little I have watched. I'm sure (or at least I'm hoping) that there is depth in the game but as someone who has watched and played a lot of fighting games this just looks largely like button mashing.

There are combos/techniques you can use by putting in the correct combination of button presses (on the mouse). Each hero has their own moveset and the likes. I will say that the story mode isn't what I would consider an "afterthought" for Ubisoft in this sense. Though, I can't really say "go out and purchase this game!". I got it for free, so there's less of a desire to commit to it (strange how that works).

I held out on it because I figured it would have a so-so single player experience and I personally don't pay full retail price only for multiplayer (for the most part) these days. It looks fun and I certainly do enjoy watching streamers duel on Twitch for sure.

I dropped consideration of this game. It has 0 character model options. Not only that, but like every characters are literally walking suits of armor. No head/face, no way to tell their even human.

A clone armored suit army, will not last long. Without any shred of "RP" component; the nonexistence of character design, this game die out real fast. Like League of Legends, if all the champions were floating nameless blob of pixels. Very hard to care about it.

Yes, combat could have potential in theory, but it is only 1/2 a game. Being able to change ur suit of armor with texture decals is not the same as character model itself.

Less ur into Clone Wars, and stuff....

It is a very good game. It isn't perfectly balanced though unfortunately. Given the nature of the game, I was a little disappointed to see a IAP system implemented. Paying for gear boxes defeats the purpose of the skill based gameplay.

To each their own, but I´ve read a lot of comments(not here, on other forums) about not being worth the money or it´s a short lived game. Honestly, I played the closed and open beta for almost 40 hours total each, then with the release now I have at least 25 hours logged, I´m still not even remotely sick of this game.

But that´s just my opinion and I can definitely see why this game won´t appeal to some.

While I also don´t like that system, the gear doesn´t really matter that much in terms of winning and losing. In duels and brawls, they don´t serve any function, but I guess really high lvl gear can have some impact on the dominion and elimination modes.

Let the people waste their money buying gear packs, I still mostly destroy them in-game.

I feel like this game should be viewed as more of a fighting game than a team based whatever. The combat shines in 1v1 duels and dominion is a little bit too hectic for my tastes. What I've played has reminded me of practicing Melee or Street Fighter and trying to improve to beat friends, and those guys online who I play seven times and beat him twice. In duels it's exciting and engaging but being hit in the back during an intense duel really sours my apples when I play the team modes. I would highly recommend picking this up on a sale if the combat looks interesting to you and you enjoy fighting games, if you want to play a battlefield style of game just get chivalry instead.
