EDIT: BTW, CR is holding a contest this week for free Japan Trip. Requires u to make a video, and be PR+ member (just for this month). So, if ur "hard core enough"....

I noticed that not many people actually seriously talk about this. They "want" to, but too lazy to go. With all the interest in anime, one would think it be high priority.

Definately worth doing, in either case. And longer you are there, the more anime makes sense. But, from what I seen, "Internet travel guides" out there all useless, so maybe that's why people fear it. Or, complain about "money issues", then spend $7/day at Starbucks.

Perhaps, I should write something useful, for once...

EDIT: In case I wasn't clear, yes me been there many times. 6, actually. 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2009 again (saw Obama that time), and recently last Summer for Magical Mirai 2016. Approximately 11 months registered. Quite impressive, given it didn't get me anywhere.

No matter...

MIKU!!!

And if u ever wanted to know what all the buttons on her arm do... BEHOLD AND REJOICE!!!

(For download, add .jpg to filename)

Bet u never seen that b4. UR WELCOME, "PEOPLES OF THE INTERNET!!!"...

I was there in December. Not all the internet guides are useless. I used info from http://www.japan-guide.com http://www.japan-guide.com. If you're going to Tokyo the most important thing is to get a handle on the JR train and subway system and to read about the various neighborhoods to help you decide where to stay and visit.

Though, like all guides generally, don't give real detailed info on how to function. They just tell u "where to do", which for you, may be "overrated". Sometimes, just randomly walking around yield best results. In either case, u are gonna run into trouble, otherwise.

Like, better learn how to match Kanji; better not be relying on online maps BTW, because many secondary rail stations no English for the stops guide (or at all). Common in JR West. Stations may have very simular names/modifications. Or, if you're on trainline that goes forever; it (different trains using same line) usually final stops somewhere mid line, and the next train may have completly different platform/destination u don't want. And first train isn't always fastest, or one u want. Have to read destination Kanji on side of train to figure it out.

Case in point, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biwako_Line That train is death.

So many technical details, that will blow ur mind and get u lost fast, if u don't understand Japanese that is. So, yes...

Yeah, though I'm in no hurry. I've scoped out Furano, Hokkaido, and have been eye-balling potential spots to check out, such as the Furano Ski Resort, Furano Cheese Factory, and Furanojibirukan brewery. Aside from cost, I am concerned about culture shock.

Yes, I really want to go. Almost did last summer, but it was too expensive. Went to Peru instead, which was amazing.

Don't forget Sapporo Brewery. Unlimited food/alcohol for like 30-40USD. Cook ur own food. Is great.

BTW, these me pictures, if ye haven't guessed. Took them while in Sapporo during Miku's B-Day/V4X new release. Nothing special happened. Typhon nerfed train. Had to fly out. Costly. Very angry....

I'll go eventually, but I'm trying to practice Japanese first before going. Even if I'm going with someone who can translate, I don't want to feel so incapable. That aside, I'm aiming to save up (likely need a $1500 to $3000 budget) and go in a few years (2018 or 2019). I hope my Japanese is somewhat decent by then.

I do have some friends who live there, so it'd be neat to spend some time with them. In addition to anime and food related things, I'd also love to cycle around the Japanese coastline.

This post is pretty helpful, as I'm planning to travel Japan for the very firs timet next year, its nice to get tips from people who have been.

Got hiragana and katakana down, just reading at a snails pace atm lol hope that will speed up during the year. Any tips on defeating kanji as I haven't even started to tackle that yet.

LoL, good q. I usually focus on trying to read, not write them. That is what voice dictation software is for, of course.

I went to japan in the summer between my junior and senior years of high school. I landed in Osaka and eventually traveled to Kyoto and then Tokyo by bus. It was fun, but I'm mostly a homebody nowadays. I would love to save up and go again sometime, maybe see what its like in the winter next time, but I'm pretty terrible with money so it will probably take me a while to save.
