This whole thread is one big hypocritical trainwreck and I actually feel dumber for having read through it.

Like half these anime are some OC 91201 type shit, about some stupid kid in high-school and his 3 girls and whatever drama he's in and occasionally the girls will flash their low cut skirts towards the screen for some fan service or do some wierd sexual shit so the audience watching it will continue watching it. Not to mention every other anime with some teen age kid who gets a whole bunch of girls and they do dumb shit together, it's like this is some viewers' sexual foreplay fantasy. Anime like this needs to be removed, it is absolute trash.

Good anime would be like Stein's Gate, Death Note, FullMetal, Ghost in the Shell, PsychoPass. There should also be some more family friendly anime like Nobunaga no Shinobi. And there should be an option to filter out all the shit anime, like through some filter that says what age group it's intended for, what type of people it's intended for (like people who want a good story like Breaking Bad, or folks who just want some softcore porn) as well as sorting anime by who wrote the story, or if the anime won/was nominated for any awards(like the Tokyo Anime Award), etc...

Okay mate, first of all, you do realise that when you refer something as being "good" or "bad" is entirely your opinion based on your personal taste, which means it's biased to a certain extent.

With all the respect, to me you just sound like one of those "edgy" teenagers who complain non stop about "how bad today's music is" and that everything that is not my taste shouldn't exist. I hope you realise how many anime shows are out there that you haven't watched yet. If you just dig the surface, you'll most likely find stones and dirt, the gems are usually deeper, if you know what I mean.

Also, if you haven't got out of your bubble yet, anime is an industry like every other, which means that it requires $$ in order to keep running. Hence, animes with "Moe" and slices of life have high sales volume, because of their large demographic fanbases. Which means that, not only DVDs/Blu-Rays and mangas are sold, but also a huge amount of merchandise. Moreover, fan service has been around for a long time pal, don't act like it's something that the current Studios are pulling out to not go bankrupt.

Take my own opinion as an example, I really dislike Shounen anime, because of fillers and absurd quantities of episodes. However this kind of genre generates insane amounts of revenue, specially because of merchandise. But, since I don't like it, should it exist? Definitely should, what isn't my cup of tea, might be someone else's.

Don't worry, you are more than allowed to dislike these kind of shows and have a personal opinion, but having an open mind and some critical thinking are always appreciated.

Personally, I'm also not a fan of fan service, but I guess we just have to deal with it.

Edit: Just saw the posts above mine, hopefully I didn't got baited, but if I did, it's too late to go back now. ):

These shows tend to be aimed at older single men who have lots of disposable income to buy figures of cute characters and boxed sets and much of them are based on visual novels aimed at the same audience that include explicit sex scenes. They more or less prey on loneliness by creating surrogate girlfriends and children for them to fantasise about which they'll likely never have. It's mostly just low effort high profit stuff but there are good shows in high schools just not that many because generic magical girl and nerdy loser who somehow becomes a sex god and has a harem sells easy.

Whats wrong with magical girl shows with nerdy main characters?

It's like the bargain bucket of anime shows there are thousands of them with the exact same rehashed plot. It's such an overdone genre that it's very rarely all that interesting though sometimes I'll watch them for amusement like I watched that Trinity Seven even though it's awful and the characters are all stereotypes from anime. I watched Rayearth years ago back when I was first getting into anime and magical girl shows still have not changed at all except the art got worse because moeblobs.

Anime is no different to any other media format. Stories, Songs and ideas rehashed over and over and every now and again something original and amazing comes along that will blow your mind. At least there is a lot less remakes like in the cinema. Plus the vast output of TV shows in Western culture to fill the time is phenomenal and 99% of them are rubbish to someone and great TV to another.

I usually just avoid the high school anime type and look for something showing more action.

To be fair the majority of today's anime is set around school kids or at very least teenagers. It's what sells though - that and ecchi lol

Most anime is based on SHONEN or SHOJO manga that's aimed at teenage boys/girls. And teenage boys usually want to see teenager or at least adult below 20 as main protagonist because it's more relatable to them. I recommend some seinen/josei anime if you want to see more adult protagonist.
