They "why" was claimed to be low usage per each different device (for specifically the Crunchyroll app, not in terms of actual TVs sold), but now I can't find where I read that...it might have been just a random staff member's post I saw in passing.

Here's a post where they mentioned "officially" killing all the smart TV apps at the time: /forumtopic-807937/#50440695 but that doesn't say why they did it, just that they did.

Now the only "native" smart TV apps that work are Roku TVs, more by happenstance than intent, because those use the same O/S as the Roku boxes, and Android TVs, because of their similarity to the android app. I forget which, but there is supposed to be one TV O/S that you can cast to from a smartphone as well, similar to a Chromecast.

My own opinion/guess, is that the TV industry doesn't stay standard for the smart interface they use, within even a given brand, let alone multiple brands, abruptly changing from one model year to the next, making it too much effort to try to maintain them all, so they simply gave up on it.

CR isn't a large company compared to Netfilx or Hulu, and they just don't have the resources to cover and continue maintaining such a broad range of programming, and even for something as popular as Samsung, picking just one TV out of the gamut would lead to increased complaints about leaving the others out.

Here is the list of devices that they do support, several of which can be used in conjunction with a TV: /devices, (also listed in the footer of each CR page) although, from seeing posts in the help section, some of those appear to work somewhat better or worse than the others. Fire TV is another device you might expect to have a CR app, but there's not an official one for that, either...

We used to support Samsung's old Android-based TVs, which have long been discontinued.

All Tizen-based Samsung Smart TVs support screen mirroring from mobile devices. Just use that, then start the Crunchyroll app on your smart phone to get the video and audio onto your TV screen.

Are you on an iPhone or a phone with an older version of Android (older than 4.2) by chance?

If you have a Android phone with a later version of Android, check out the "Android 4.2+" section of the following page to see how to enable it on your phone:

If you mean the TV doesn't, check this page:

I'm on an iPhone it's really weird because the thing to send it to other devices, tv's and bluetooth audio stuff is there when I'm not connected to wifi, but goes away when I connect, it's really weird

As is often the case, Apple likes to go their own way, so they use AirPlay, not Miracast. (Although to be fair, my understanding is AirPlay typically is more reliable). AFAIK, no Sony televisions support AirPlay.
