I've been wondering for a while now if there's any way I could use a program like Windows narrator or another text-to-speech application to read out subtitles on Crunchyroll as the text doesn't seem like it's hardcoded into the videos. I've tried Windows narrator and using the voiceover on my Galaxy A3 phone with the app (although I'm pretty sure the subtitles must be hardcoded for mobile) but nothing seems to work even though it doesn't seem like it should be that hard. Does anyone know of a way I might be able to do something like this? I'd also be interested in knowing if anyone else would like having the subtitles read aloud instead of having to read them as maybe Crunchyroll themselves would consider adding a feature like that to their player if they thought people would want that.

Edit: I love the Simuldubs Funimation do and try to support them as much as I can, but obviously not every show is dubbed and subtitles are such a pain to read for me anyway as I'm partially sighted, so really even a robotic voice would be more pleasant for me. I didn't know it was against copyright law to rip subtitles but I guess it makes sense. Ah well, thank you for the responses, anyway.

You would have to extract the subtitles for this to work, and that would be breaking a copyright protection mechanism and a violation of the /ToS.

If you're located in the United States, UK or Ireland, have you considered subscribing to FUNimation instead? They're doing simuldubs for 18 shows this season, which is a decent chunk of what's premiering on CR. It'll also be easier, and probably a more pleasant experience, than robot voices.

using an automated program to read subs...i can't see the results being anything but atrocious.
and of course, this would also be in violation of ToS anyways.
