I own two Kindle Fires that I haven't used in a couple years, so I decided to make at least one of them useful again by using it as a mini TV next to my bed. Turns out the Crunchyroll app isn't very friendly with the Kindle.

Kindle Fire (First gen)
App version: 0.9.7 (Latest version supported)
Whenever I click on a video, I get the error "There was a problem playing the video. Please try again, or contact support if the problem persists.". I actually got it to load a video once, then came back to it later to find that it started getting the errors again.

Kindle Fire (HD)
App version: 1.1.4* (Latest version supported)
Similar problem to the first one, except without the error. Whenever I click on a video, it either gets stuck on an infinite loading screen, or just goes black and never loads.

Anyone have any fixes for this? or is it easier just to watch it on my smaller phone screen?

*EDIT: On the Fire HD, 1.1.4 isn't the latest version, I read that somewhere, but it turns out you can use up to 1.1.8.
Which I just did.
And nothing has changed.

That problem was the main reason I rooted my second-gen KFHD 8.9 into a PerfectlyAndroid (5.1) installable version of cyanogenmod. Now that it has a real Android OS instead of the old Kindle bastardation that Amazon won't ever update any more, I can play CR vids just fine. Funi, and even Daisuki.net too, neither of which work on those older OS models.

Not for the faint of heart, though. Cost me $30 for the (specific to the 8.9 KFHD) 3rd-party software package, and a lot of nail-biting for the amount of time and odd displays it went through installing it, knowing I could brick it and have nothing.

Afterwards, it took a while to get all the android versions for all the Amazon apps loaded, but it works "mostly" fine, except one older app I have to flip the tablet over and a different one doesn't work on the new version at all, because it still thinks the hardware is an Amazon Jem, but for the most part, I can now use the Google Play Store for most everything, and the few Amazon apps I had paid for all could be installed too.

Not a clue what you can do with the first gen though, I don't have one of those to play with.

New update: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004U7BXBO is now listed as compatible again for my 8.9 KFHD, and it plays episodes. Not sure what resolution they are for sure, though.

Looks like an older version, and you may need to uninstall the newer one first before reinstalling installing it. But it does work for me. I'm curious to see what will happen on an unmodified kindle, but not curious enough to go back just to test this.

This is an entirely new release.

Odd thing... I uninstalled (to have a clean start) the 2.0.11 release from my Kindle (cyanogenmod to work with Google Play) and then went to Amazon to that same link that works for FTV, and installed it on my cloud, then to my kindle from there from the underground appstore. It installed 0.9.7... Don't ask me how the same link delivers different versions to different devices, but it does.

We're definitely not delivering 0.97. That's an ancient version that does not even properly support our current streaming technology. Maybe it's because your device is not on Amazon's stock ROM any more?
