Racism & America-the pink elephant in the room
Posted 4/17/07
If you dehumanize someone, you'd be amazed by what people are willing to inflict upon them. It's all about understanding how connected or disconnected we all are.

okay, I can see where this is going.

Anyway, on this racism thing, racism in wrong yes, but its roots come from stereotyping races and being ignorant about cultural differences.

I will go deeper now: The word ' nigger' realy should not be used for african-americans, because in truth, that word means 'ignorant'
The same goes with calling a caucasian person 'white or cracker', white is color in the freaking crayon box and a cracker is something you eat!

Somebody or somepeople took ordinary wors adn decided to make them seem racist, now what does tht tell you?

And that goes for asians, stereotyping them is wrong. You can't go on thiking tha they are smart and can solve everything, cause you are putting thme into a category, just like arabs/muslims adn ect. saying they are just like the terrorists adn calling mexicans beaners and wetbackss, thats what we like to call 'racial profiling'.

with african-americans its: gangstas, hos, pimps, gang members rappers and ect. This is shown through music videos on BET, and also they way they portray women.

with caucasians its: redneck, country, rock, pop, goth and many others.

Racism is even thrown into the talk of a persons gender!

And theres alot of that in comedy, and most comedians can get away with it. the two I will point out are Carlos Mencia and Dave Chapelle, but i do laugh at the jokes, cause they don't make their jokes to be racist, and because they even make fun of their own race.

But anyway, iwill tell you that i'm african american and racism does not phase me at all, because to me, its very childish.

So basically, racism is almost everywhere, even though its not seen or heard.
And even a person can be racist towards his or her own race!

whoa, I got serious!

I totally disagree with that statement. As time goes by the definitions of words dynamically change. Thats just how it is.

I don't understand the whole apology thing...I know I'll never *really* understand, because I'm white, but I still don't get why some black people seem to want whites that had nothing to do with slavery or racism to apologise...it just seems pointless to me. Say, imagine your great great great grandfather was a murderer, would it be right to ask you, a person totally unconnected to him, for an apology? Wouldn't the effect be the same if you asked the police who arrested him for an apology, because it seems that both are equally unconnected...

Stereotyping comes from people supporting them. Roxas, you have lots of points, but the 'N' word has changed now... and there is really nothing we can do about it.

And also Jozephz, I agree completely... I watched a small portion of the Tyra banks show (b*tch don't try to be Oprah, or Dr. Phill, please), and it was about that comedian from Seinfield who has the 'N' word a lot... and the lady was like 'It's brought them bad memories of their past' the lawyer lady said... I was like WHAT THE F*CK!?!?!? Those guys were in their damn 20's they weren't even there.... I was like... 'We all see those bad images, the ones we only saw in OUR TEXTBOOKS!!!'...

God it was soo messed up... lol

Yeah, everything's been said already.
But are WE trying to change things?

Also, think about why African Americans are stereotyped as 'gangsta criminals' it goes way back when they were not given equal opportunities so many lived in poverty and turned to crime to support themselves etc. so basically there should be a focus on providing education even to the poor of the country, and starting from there.

Honestly, black stereotypical jokes are getting boring- and lame.

I believe I'm saying this racially, and not in a racist way, but black stereotypes come from themselves. They are the ones to advertise it, and they are the ones to make it the way they are. Like Sephra said.... if you don't act like a 'gangsta' they criticize you and call you a Oreo. I hear people saying stuff like "You can't be black if you ain't gangsta" and dumb crap like that. And they get a bit TOO serious against racism... Like I said about the Tyra show, he said the 'N' word.. but it brought you back no personal memories of pain when blacks had no rights... those guy were in their 20's... They say 'cracker', 'chink', and all that crap, but you when you throw the 'N' word at them... (I didn't spell it out so nobody would start yelling like crap at me :P.) Whites said sorry, gave you equality and that's all they need to do.

Asians, they cause it themselves too. They make it like Asians need to act a certain way or they'll be called a disgrace. Which I've been called, but I just called the other guy Cho (he was south korean, so I just played the card he pulled right back at him, I'm so sorry V-tech.) Seriously I pity those asian clubs in high school... I seriously do. There is no pride to be any race. For Example you're the South Korean guy: Did he have any involvement with Cho? What a person of his race does, should it affect him? No, but his own stupidity got his own feelings hurt, he had nothing to do with it and didn't even know the guy. The same goes with good things and bad things, be proud of your accomplishments not others'.

Take it from somebody who lives in Oklahoma. Rednecks are not to blame for racism. MTV and rappers are. I’ve been to Redneck City Texas, and you know what they hate about blacks? The fact that blacks can call us white trash but we can’t say the N word. The fact that blacks say Red Neck all the time but people jump down our throats just for saying “Blacks” It’s “African American” now. But whites are still white, or Red Necks, or White Trash, or Crackers.

Some lady came on Oprah the other day. She had written a book called, “Female Chauvinist Pigs.” (Of course its not about women being sexist towards men, that would have never been on Oprah in a million years. Oprah is great, but let’s face it, she’s sexist.) The book discussed how women, particularly African American women had created an image for themselves. You know those jigling butt dancers in the back ground of the rap videos? Their job description is “Video Ho.” According to the book the reason men were so perverted these days, why they cheated, why our society was full of pigs, is because women dress like sluts. Women go out, without realizing their doing it, and make themselves look like tools for sex.

It’s the same with racism in America. The stereotypes formed here were not created out of thin air. Most of them are encouraged by black music stars, and the general black population. I’m not black, but if I were I’d shoot 50 cent just for making all blacks look like criminals.

Of course it’s stupid to assume all blacks are like this. I’ve known plenty of African-Americans who are good citizens and instill values in their children. They don’t say the N word and they don’t refer to Caucasians as Crackers, Red Necks, or White Trash.

There was an episode of The Boondocks that strangely had a good message to it. In this episode Martin Luther King Jr. Came back and saw what had become of the black community. He was appalled and called them all Ners. He said they had made themselves into just that. Watch the episode, I think they may actually have it here on CR.

The point was an Ner isn’t a black person. It’s somebody who encourages the image of being one. Who refers to themselves as an Ner and goes out and makes all blacks look like criminals. These people should be shafted. They are to blame for racism against all African Americans.

You sick of racism? Then shape up and lead by example. That’s my advice to everyone in the black community. A few have already begun to do it, but this modicum of people are so negligible when placed next to the general masses that they’re not making any difference. If I were them I would be ticked…

Edit:

That's a bunch of bull. Like I said, I've been to Red Neck City in Texas, (look up a small town called Higgins.) If you talk to those people they know nothing of history. They're ignorant, remember? I've talked with these people and they have monotonous opinions. The stereotype comes from rappers, MTV, and the general black population.

Also, somebody talked about using the word "White." Umm, take a look at me. I'm just like that crayon...

Anyway, I don't see anything wrong with the terms "black" or "white" as long as they are not used in a derogatory manor. I think of them as descriptive terms. “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves,” for example, was not a racial slur on whites. (Or dwarves…) It’s like “Fat” and “Skinny” Everyone gets mad at me for calling somebody fat, but for me I’m just describing somebody. It may be an exaggerating metaphor, Africans are dark skinned like black coal, but I think it’s the intent behind the word that matters.

I was discussing this topic with a rather mature black youth. He told me that he thinks people should be able to say the N word, that what mattered is how they say it. The N word is just a word. Cracker is just a word. What matters is the meaning given from the speaker.

I don’t know that I necessarily agree with him on that, but the theme is the same. His attitude towards the N word is the same as mine toward “White” and “Black.” Of course this is all my opinion…

Sorry to say Killar, even though your statement is true in some cases it is wrong in this case. I hate giving history lessons.....the N-Word ccomes from the latin word niger meaning black. Southerners (along with adopting the word negro) adopted this word which they spelled nigger and pronounced it differently changing the way it was spelled and sounded in latin. It was a term of exclusion, a reason to hate and discriminate against African Americans. Honky was derived from bohunk and hunky racist terms to describe Bohemian, Hungarian, and Polish immigrants. Honky was later developed and used to describe all caucasians by blacks in the 1960's. Cracker.......well this was not a derogatory comment, it was made into one...it can have many meanings so I won't even put it in the same category as the other two.
