1. Cloudflare issue is CR not FUNimation. They are two seperate hacks.

You're right. My bad. I thought they were related.

Funimation Comments on Website Data Breach / Funimation: passwords not viewable due to encryption ANN NEWS

FUNimation Entertainment provided a comment on Friday regarding the July data breach of the Funimation website. The company confirmed that some names, e-mail addresses, and dates of birth may have been compromised — and it has sent notifications to customers potentially affected — but passwords were not viewable as they are encrypted.

The full statement is as follows:

Safeguarding the privacy and security of our customers' information is a top priority.
In August 2016 we learned that our web application forum software was the subject of a sophisticated intrusion. Upon learning of the issue, our incident response team promptly launched an investigation and has been working very closely with one of the nation's leading cybersecurity firms that regularly investigates and analyzes these types of incidents. Following our complex forensic investigation, which was recently concluded, we devoted considerable time and effort to determine what information contained within the forums database may have been compromised.

Funimation has sent written notification to those customers whose names, e-mail addresses, and dates of birth may have been accessed, as required by state notice laws. Passwords were encrypted and not viewable as a result of this incident.

We are taking proactive steps to strengthen our IT systems moving forward to prevent similar issues in the future. We immediately turned off the forums web application and have since changed all administrator passwords, relaunched an updated version of the site with additional security, increased the complexity of the passwords required for user accounts and upgraded the Forums Platform.

The "Have I been pwned?" and Vigilante websites reported earlier this week that around 2.5 million accounts may have been compromised in a data breach of Funimation's website in July.

There was a CNN article about Cloudbleed today, but they didn't really seem too concerned about it. Apparently there's no evidence this bug has been exploited before it was formally discovered and reported by a security professional. Of course, just because there's no evidence of exploitation doesn't mean it was exploited, and given the information one can find with is quite expansive, but it's also random - basically it would be difficult for a bad actor to use this bug to find specific information. Of course, someone could have just taken the information and sold it on the dark web, but unless they just happened to find specific information in the right context, there's little real value in the infodump.

Of course I'm not saying it's impossible for someone's credentials to have gotten snagged due to this, and the more paranoid among us would be no worse off for preemptively changing their passwords and stuff, but it seems this exploit is less of a net-breaking problem than initial reports would have us believe, and Cloudflare has already patched it (they wouldn't be releasing exploit information to the public if they hadn't already patched it)

... really? And I assume you believe everything that comes out of Donald Trump's mouth is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help me God? CNN may have a significant liberal bias and so I do take their opinion with a grain of salt, but unlike certain other news organizations I can name they have never outright lied or reported a story that was obviously faked as truth.

But i know I'm probably not going to convince a "true patriot" like yourself. Have fun serving your fascist overlord, stormtrooper.

God even Crunchyroll is getting taken over by retards. It makes me fucking sick. I'm in favor of banning political discussions from this board entirely unless it's directly related to anime in some way.

I need a drink...

At the very least, my password hasn't swiped from this breach seeing that I'm just too lazy to change passwords to something that will require me to really remember. Yeah, I know I should from time to time, but that's just too much inconvenience for me to handle. Nevertheless that was quite a surprise that Funimation would be targeted seeing that there are much bigger fish out there. I'm not exactly sure what to think about this, but it certainly is a concern in a way. My account shows up as being one of the 2.5 million who got pwned, but no such email was sent to me from Funimation.
