VRV is a subscription site like Crunchyroll however you get CR and Funimation and 6 other video sites for 10$ a month, I guess I 'm just trying to figure out if their apps and what they offer is really worth it before I pull out the CC.

I'm not convinced yet. I'd watch Funimation (I don't subscribe to it now), but the other channels are either geeky things that don't interest me, or require an additional fee above the basic monthly fee (Riff Tracks).
I also don't like the app, which is designed for iPhone but not iPad, so you have to use it with your device oriented vertically. When watching in an iPad, that means a much smaller picture.

Well that right there was enough info to make me not want it. I generally watch a little anime before sleep and I lay my iPad up against a wall so I don't have to hold it. I have the large iPad pro so holding that thing vertical would be a crazy annoying feat daily! thank you for that!

I considered it but didn't see anything that interested me. From the announcement earlier it sounded like funi was going all-dub and letting CR handle subbed stuff (please correct me if I'm wrong) so I don't need that either. I don't think it's for me, but if you like dubs you're paying a tiny bit less than separate CR/Funi subscriptions and getting all the other stuff as bonus.

edit: I'm sure the app stuff will get fixed in time, but yeah that sounds awful. The ios and playstation apps for crunchy are fine for me so I'm good here.

Well considering how much more love the VRV project has gotten from Ellation as opposed to Crunchyroll.. who has been sort of kept in perpetual 2012. And also take into account Peter Chernin's goals of trying to create a online video content service to "rival hulu" I think it's pretty obvious where the future lies.

That being said, not really the time to jump ship yet since VRV is pretty much still open beta at this point.

No, the only places I would watch would be Crunchyroll and Funimation, if I wanted to watch both, it would be $9.99 a month already. I'm not linking my account to do so just to have 6 other channels I won't be using.

Well, you can give it the 7-day trial and see what you think. I've been trying it, and it's not bad, especially now that it links to CR (since I prefer using my Roku or FireTV or AppleTV for watching). Some of the other channels seem kind of fun--but to be honest I'm not sure how much time I'd spend on them. Well, that's what trials are for!

FYI, I've moved this thread into the Polls forum since Poll Topics belong there.

Guess I'm lucky to have an older iPad mini then -- it's been working fine for me horizontally (also, it works great with AirPlay to cast to my AppleTV).

I've heard good things about See So (but that's not one of the combo channels).

Regarding Funimation -- having that in the combo is what got me to try VRV. I was very disappointed though. It doesn't look like any of their shows are available subbed on VRV -- everything I looked at is dub. I did contact VRV and they sent me a reply saying "Our partners choose which versions they will share. The majority of what Funimation has shared so far has been dubbed. We will share your feedback asking them for more subbed content."

I went over to check it out earlier. I think if they added a way to watch via a PC browser (rather than just through their mobile app) I'd consider going with their plan. I guess I'm odd for watching all my shows on the computer instead of an xbox or smart tv....

I was wondering though, if I did switch over and thus cancel my subscription on crunchyroll's site, how would I still retain premium+? It doesn't seem like they have a way to support that right now (they only mention you getting Premium and nothing about an option for premium+). Any mods here have any idea?

Right now it's just regular Premium, not Premium +. Here's the answer from CR's Customer Support:

/forumtopic-983519/crunchyroll-account-linking-now-available-on-vrv?pg=1#55777117

Question: I'm a Premium+ member. Does that make VRV free?
Answer:

I'm sorry, but not yet. At this time, we're able to link Premium Membership (which most users have) with VRV membership, but stay tuned--as we update the service, we'll notify you guys here on Site News.

I was definitely on the fence until I got all this massive support of NOT doing it xD In all honesty though, it just doesn't seem worthwhile right now. Esp, if yall are saying most of funimations stuff is dubbed.. :/ subbed>dubbed.

I think if you have to pay to be entertained, you're not living well.

I think there's some truth in that.
