I've always wondered what they mean by "white", when a person uses that term in regards to people.

Recently I watched a music video featuring a black woman who had been painted white to play the creepy white chick. I personally found this to be sort of racist as there was no need to paint her white because the music video would be just as good having an African American play the role. I went to the comment section expecting other people to point out how this could be offensive, but instead everyone was ignoring that and just praising the video as a work of art. I have seen white people being attacked for painting themselves black in order to play an African American character, I agree that these people do deserve the hate for copying outdated racist acts.

The whole thing appears sort of one sided and I think in order to combate racism people have to take a stand to anything which could degrade any race. I just wanted to know if anyone else find this offensive or I just have to get over it because it's no big deal. I'm not trying to start some kind of race war on the forums, and although I know racism is a touchy subject and I don't support it, if we could just keep the conversation about this one case of possibly offensive behavior and not let it spiral out control that would be great. This is a forum topic for me to learn whether or not I am being too sensitive, not an outlet for any form of hate to anyone.

Thanks for reading

God. You're bringing the drama to the forums now? Calm down.

It isn't worth harbouring emotion and sharing your thoughts upon it if you're sensitive, not because you're necessarily in the wrong or anything, but because the back and forth controversy to this won't do much, and if you stick to your guns about stuff...it'll fuel the flame.

So eh.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For me this is not offensive. I always found it ridiculous when black people got offended at white people painting their faces black to portray a black character.

But I find hypocritical the fact that black people are not getting offended when the roles are reversed.

This is the problem with these people, they only cry racism when it is done to them but when their people do it to another person, they ignore it.

Thats just the african-american version of blackface, and its reverse racism. Even though most blacks don't think it exists, it definitely exists.

Reverse racism doesn't exist, it is called RACISM when black people discriminate on white people and vice-versa or when anyone discriminates someone based on their race.

I wouldn't say reverse racism, as most times it would be satire of the racism which is committed by whites. Anyone can be racist, yes, but as the power in the western world is geared towards white people, the impact is smaller, as they are the majority and it is considered more "normal" to be white.

This is the excuse these people use to discriminate someone, why is this world full of hypocrites they say that black people can't be racist for the reasons you stated when it doesn't matter and it doesn't justify the hate. Also, reverse racism doesn't exist, it is called racism. There's no need to change definitions and add new words to fit your agenda.

Well without seeing the video I can't say if it was meant to be satirical or not but either way it does definitely show a certain double standard like many have already mentioned.

(Edit) Regardless of the intent though I do think it is in bad taste.

You're right reverse-racism does not exist. But there are only a few examples of actual white racism that I can think of, this not being one of them. The reason why I believe why racism towards whites is very numbed and non-important is because in the Western world, people are not killed/ attacked for being white. White is seen as the most attractive and society is inherently racist, where people of colour experience many microaggressions everyday.

I agree with you that their aren't all that many cases of people acting on racist opinions toward whites but I'd also say that it's still worth addressing regardless of how rare the instances might be. If we're ever going to have a truly equal society in the west (or anywhere for that matter) then in my opinion we need to try and eliminate prejudices like this as a general rule and treat any act of true hate or bigotry as equally severe regardless of the racial history of the two parties.

I'm so glad the west is as developed as it is to be honest. And yeah, I agree. If there was no racism from any party, nothing like this would happen. I feel currently society feels a need to point out who is more oppressed than actually helping the situation.

Reverse racism doesn't exist. Man do I hate it when people say it. It gives off some weird implication that racism is a white mans thing and that when a minority is doing the exact same thing it's actually somehow different. It's all just the same shit. It's being racist. Racism is getting so bad apparently we have to divide the minority racist and white racist and separate them. They can't even be labeled racists together they are so racist. What's next we bring back separate bathroom and drinking fountains? The more separation the better! Right? Righhttt?

Drama queen? No, everyone is entitled to thier own honest opinion.

Your mistake was voicing that opinion on a general comment forum. That never ends well.

Yeah, except it's not. Black face was an actual thing that happened to black people. Denigrated by society into clowns and stereotypes. On a national level. Putting that into perspective of a black women wearing white makeup. Not nearly the same thing.
