So? ADV and i'm sure Funimation has done the same to.

..and anime is already mainstream my nephew knows was Hetaila is!

Do you know what they mean by produce? They mean Crunchyroll is on a lot of production committees meaning Crunchyroll are funding the animes & Funimation doesn't produce anime at all ever since Dimension W didn't do well in Japan

If they help produce more shows like Magical girl Raising Project and Oijsan and Marshmellow I'm all for it.

Edit: magical somera-chan too.

It is just marketing from the parent company, geared to investors.

But I do think it's true, and I do think anime will take off in 2017.

As for fans who want to keep it niche and not let it become mainstream... why? That's stupid. If it's a good thing, why wouldn't you want more people to appreciate it? Why wouldn't you want as many people as possible to see and learn from the thing that you love?

Also, as one of those "creators raised on anime who looks back to Japan"... I like the idea of collaborations/co-pros.

If you're interested, I made a post some time ago that touched on this (albeit in my typical garrulous fashion) here.

The short version is that there are both good and some bad things about the anime community growing. I've never argued against that growth, but I certainly do miss some things about when it was a more niche interest.

Those are personal things, though. Things like that don't even come close to outweighing the idea that the artists and creators behind the thing that you like can now get more recognition for their work.

Also, like, "back in the day", anime was so niche, you had to be friends with those people or you wouldn't get those shows - but even then, you could only get five shows. What happens if you don't like Tenchi or Dragonball? If there's such a small number of people who like anime, and that's what most of them like, that's what you get.

Today, I have a decent amount of acquaintances where all of us like stories that happen to be anime and manga, but none of us like shonen things like Naruto, Hunter x Hunter, One Piece, Dragon Ball; none of us like that many so-called "otaku-bait" things like battle harems, or Bakemonogatari, or whatever. None of us even like the more popular BL/"fujoshi bait" series like Junjou Romantica or UtaPri, or sports shows (except for Yuri On Ice).
We like things like Code Geass, K, Noragami, Black Butler, YOI, as well as things that are a lot more obscure than that - things that have bishounen and good writing. Half of these things, in the environment you're talking about, would never have gotten any sort of release outside of Japan, even fansubbed. And the ones that would, well, their Code Geass conversations would be entirely about C.C.'s butt or something. Small group = no room for a variety of opinions and focuses. A larger base means more diverse topics and ideas.

This I can agree with

Doesnt do any good wiith all the issues CR is having streaming the vidoes now let alone all the 404 / 500 errors / nagging problems like only the most recen t 5 top 5 comments on a show page / let alone the photo code glitch ( or is it ? on purpose )

And the recent SAT meltdowns !

I think attention is needed elsewher besides making shows

Right now CR is the worst website I ever used. And I am talking fron Dial-up days . That is really sad .
