My city has one and it is very beautiful.
I try to visit every few weeks.

I actually been to yours while attending a conference. I thought it was beautiful. I love feeding the koi, ducks, and turtles. It was fun watching the koi all dart for the pellet with the ducks. Denver has one but I've never attended. It is not an entity of its own, like yours, but part of the Denver Botanic Gardens.

Anyone else think it was weird that Melania Trump took the Japanese Prime Minister's wife to a Japanese Garden in Delray Beach, Fl?

Not really. Japanese people tend to love it when "gai-jin" emulate Japanese culture. They usually find it flattering, especially if done well. Kind of like "Ohhh. This one understands us"

My wife's who's Japanese found it strange. In fact she's the one who mentioned it to me.

The gardens are 30 minutes away from Trump's "Winter White House" so it seemed kinda lazy. Like "Oh, remember those Japanese Gardens down the block, just take her there, she's Japanese so she'll love it." Might as well buy her a Hello Kitty doll dressed as a geisha and a pair of chop sticks to boot.

I've visited the same gardens a few times. It's 30 minutes away from me and It's okay. They built it for the Japanese who were building the railroads down here. But I've also been to the real thing. The real thing is very nice.

Maybe when Trump visits Japan they can take him to KFC.

My fiancee who's from Tokyo thought it very fitting.

It's like when President Bush visited Japan and they took him to a steakhouse. IIRC they also took him to a baseball game.

I don't know, I saw the video of Melania and the PM's wife. It looked very uncomfortable. I'm sure she appreciated it, but wouldn't it be more fitting to treat her to some local flair, rather than something she's seen before at a grander scale?

Japanese steak is no joke. I'm sure Bush loved that.

But back on topic: I've been to a few in Japan.

The one I remember the most was attached to a very high end Japanese restaurant. We were there as a huge family get together hosting 30-40 people. Very fancy and beautiful food and lots of drink. Myself and a few of my wife's family went to a balcony overlooking the gardens while it was lightly raining. Just pouring each other sake and a few guys were having a smoke. It was extremely chill.

I've been to the Portland Japanese Garden a few times myself ~ It truly is a magical place and I try to go every time I visit Oregon to see family. There's another near my home as well that I visit once a year and it's just as lovely, I'd like to get married in one but it's super expensive! lol

I'm glad you liked it!
It is a small oasis in the desert of Arizona .

No, but my college has a new botanical garden. I think those are lovely too, it's like being in a rain forest.
