How do you feel about headphones and or earbuds? Any stories? What old pairs/current do you have?

I've always liked headphones. They are for the most part pretty comfortable and the audio is usually good. I've recently gotten a new cheap 20 dollar pair headphones that are well... eh as expected. My old headphones (Blue Phaint from Sentey) Which was also a cheap pair (even cheaper now a days) but it had ok sound in comparison to these new ones. These new ones are only slightly worse. Downside is that they tend to hurt my ears when resting on my head.

I've never liked using earbuds so I always avoid them. Speakers I dislike as I like to keep the sound to myself.

So how do you feel about headphones/earbuds?

I use the AKG K240 Studio semi-open headphones. It's not exactly high end, but it's good enough for me. I will never again spend over $10 on headphones that don't feature a removable/replaceable cord. In my experience the cord was always the first part to fail.

Best thing to know when deciding on headphones is what your budget is, then what sort of music or instruments you like to hear. Different sets of headphones will emphasize different things.

As for me, the ATH-ESW9's were recommended to me since I wanted female vocals to sound good. From there, I went to a pair of ATH-W1000X's.

Currently, I have:
ATH-W1000X's on a Fiio E17K/K5 combo for my main rig.
ATH-ESW9A's or RE-0's on a Fiio X1/E17K combo for travelling (though sometimes I'll go without the E17K).

Also have used...
Koss KSC75 - Cheap, nice to have around, leaves you aware to outside sound (but remember that means sound leaks!). Can struggle when a lot of audio hits at once. Still great for what they cost.
JBuds J3 - Hurt my ears listening to them, so not for me.
NuForce NE-6 - Nice earbuds, but one of the cables died quicker than I'd have liked it to. Build quality wasn't the best, I guess.
Sennheiser CX-280 - Use 'em, but never really A/B'ed them or anything.
Koss Portapro - Can't remember much about these.
MEElectronics... uhm, M3? - Good for the cost. Best at bass, electronica, and techno.

I prefer headphones that completely encase my ears, as they seem to take longest to become unbearable. Ear buds do not work for me, besides being about as painful as ramming a drill into your ear canal.

I find earbuds uncomfortable.
I remember having a pair of surround sound zalman headphones for a few years. It had a bunch of jacks that I had to figure out every time I wanted to swap them between my dvd player and pc.
Now I use cheaper usb ones.

I prefer earbuds. They're easier to take with you and headphones hurts my ears after a while. I use happy ears.

Well, I have some high-end studio headphones(because of work) so naturally, I prefer those over earbuds. My two favorites are AKG 712 pro and Beyerdynamic DT770 pro, just in case anyone needs some good ones. They're monitor headphones though, but I prefer that over frequency altered ones.

I try to limit my time on either of those things because I don't want to lose some (or ALL) of my hearing

Hmmm. The Apple earbuds are surprisingly pretty good --- surprised me, at the very least. If I wasn't too lazy to go to an Apple store, I would get myself another pair since I felt they had excellent sound quality for being earbuds that fit perfectly in my ears. I never found any other pair that sounded so good and sat so nicely in my ears.

Anyways, I only get earbuds. Though I prefer headphones, earbuds are relatively more convenient and not as conspicuous.

Panasonic ErgoFit In-Ear Earbud from Amazon, they are their best sellers.

If you're not a headphones geek and just want to replace the headphones for your phone these work just as well as the iPhone ones. They can get as low as $5. Wished I had done this before purchasing numerous cheap groecery store headphones to replace the one that kept breaking on me
