Currently my favorite two tracks so far.

Personally Miyazaki is my favorite, especially how he did an amazing job telling a Lovecraftian story in Bloodborne.

I've never really been a big fan of Kojima as a story teller (or a designer for that matter). I like some of the ideas he has but he's so clumsy and over the top in how he puts them together.

Automata's story, at least, is very clean and concise. It tells what needs to be told and isn't afraid to let the player fill in the blanks where it doesn't. I've never felt that about any of the Kojima games I've played/watched.

Just finished my first playthrough. The combat felt solid but lacking in requiring much depth or technique. The graphics were mixed, with the characters looking and moving damn near perfect but the environments looking vastly out of date. The story, world building, voice work, etc. were all phenomenal and I can't wait to go back for New Game+ (or whatever you want to call it here) for more. Oh, and the music.. the music.. so damn good. Easily one of the best game soundtracks I've ever heard.

Just got to the start of C path and, damn, this game is good. It's too bad it came out when it did given that I'm sure way more people picked up Zelda or Horizon but it really does deserve to be played even if it's not perfect by any means. Just like the first Nier, I think this is a game people who actually played it will be talking about for quite some time.

Only contender of GOTY agains upcoming P5 :3 the moment that NieR: Automata was released I lit dropped Horizon (I still play Horizon btw) and played NieR all day. I have finished all 5 main endings just taking my time now to finish the other endings. I've only recently got the platinum throphy :3

Overall really really good game, just a little bit short in the story.. would love it to be longer. As much as I love 2B, A2's the one for me.

How far am I in the first playthrough if I just
but I'm worried I might lock myself out of some content by doing so. I know you get a chapter select later on but I don't want to unwittingly hit a point of no return without warning.

Also speaking of that fight mentioned in my spoilers... I know one of the composers works on Tekken but I didn't expect a song that sounds like a cut track from Tekken to be in this soundtrack.

I'd say you're maybe half way through or just a little over that. I can't recall exactly but you do have some time left.

You don't really get an explicit "Point of No Return" warning but the quest that will trigger it comes from Anemone and, once you accept the quest, she does say something along the lines of "If you have any other Yorha work to take care of you should/can take care of that first."

A tiny bit more detail (nothing too spoilerish):

It is a pain in the butt but don't worry too much about missing quests. Without going too much into details, you can mop the missing ones up on your second play. You don't even need to wait to unlock the chapter select.

I hated it. the story was weak, camera angles during the fight would go full retard and not see whats hitting you. the whole side scroller and asteroids game play was a major turn off. this was not a 60 dollar game. it belongs in the 20 dollar bin. only reason you people like it was because she doesn't wear pants and the tease of shouta between here and 9s

I don't think Yoko Taro's writing is "weak" per se.. He has some interesting ideas, and how his games tie together story/setting-wise adds depth to everything. If you haven't played those games, you can only really find that by reading through archives in Automata, and even then it doesn't give the full picture. That you have to play through multiple times before you get the full story is definitely not going to appeal to everyone either.

If slight implications of shota bother you, past games of his involved things like: a former prostitute protagonist with STDs, a hermaphroditic love interest, and things like sibling incest. He seems to have a certain fondness for touching on sexual taboos at least tangentially.

He also tends to lack in subtlety when trying to evoke emotion in the player:

If you played the first Nier, he really beats you over the head in the latter portions of the game with the theme he's trying to convey. It made for an interesting twist, and bit of a surprise when all the pieces came together, but by the end there was definitely an element of, "Yes, yes. I've been doing terrible things, I get it."

TL;DR - PlatinumGames, and the character designs, may have put Nier Automata on a lot more people's radar, but at its heart it remains a niche Yoko Taro game and will probably be somewhat polarizing.

Now now, that's taking it a bit far, don't you think? Is it that hard for you to fathom the fact that some people actually like the game for LEGITIMATE reasons?
