If I wanted means over the interpersonal relationships I developed.

Here's a nifty calculator for the cost of living differences. Shows how much more (or less) you need to make to just do a parallel move. Then figure the salary difference from what you would need to make in the new city to see if it's really worth it or not.

http://money.cnn.com/calculator/pf/cost-of-living/

For me, personally, it would take at least half again as much as I would comparatively need there, and it would also have to have Google Fiber already available.

It depends on where I'm moving to. But if it is to the right place, then I definitely would take the money.

Sure would. My dream is to get to Los Angeles, Atlanta or Miami.

Don't come to Miami. It's not as glorious as you see on TV. Most of it is poor & crime infested. I work in Miami but would never live there.

The city is so weird. One block you're in the high life right down the road from a meth house.

Not a problem. I'm originally from New Orleans.

Who makes decisions based on a single variable? If the job, location, and job security were good enough I'd happily move for a job that paid less money. On the other hand it would take a very substantial pay increase to motivate me to move somewhere I didn't want to be for a job I wasn't sure I would like or didn't offer good job security.

Depends on where. I have no intentions of living in California ever, or New York, especially NYC. Aside of being prohibitively expensive to own...or even park your car....you can rent 1 bedroom of a 4 bedroom apartment for $2k, your share, and it is disgusting and old. Visiting a friend, first year as a lawyer he split the place with 3 other lawyers, the guy who had the biggest room paid $2500, friend paid 2k. It was disgusting, even if they had cleaned it, it wouldn't have looked worth it. The next year he rented his own place, can't remember how much, but he had to work 90 hours a week to do it. Was a bit better and cleaner looking, but still old. California, well, I don't want to pay 80% taxes for all the illegal aliens to live and thrive, or just the silly taxes they have.

That said, I own a house now, but would gladly give it up to live in Daytona Beach where my friends are. Just waiting on a decent job! Would gladly move and leave Michigan so I can wear shorts all year long.

Been there, done that. Money isn't the only rationale for relocating, but if it seemed like a good move, sure.

I would leave my hometown for free. I would leave the country (To Northern Europe or Germany) for even a small pay cut. That is just me though.

No, with a but?

Four reasons:
1. I will inherit my family's farm, as such knowing more about the operations and being involved with it is a good thing.
2. I have already inherited my old grandmothers place, (basically the family manor) which after the remodel im doing will take care of housing needs at a good price.
3. I live in a good place, with on ok (great benefits, bad pay) job.
4. My dad just got over cancer, and i don't want to be away from him for now. (i was planing a move before this happened)

However, if someone offered me the same job i do now at double the pay, it would be hard to turn away.

Yeah but I'm not a fan of populated cities so as long as it isn't in one I'd be down.

It depends on how much more I'd make. I'm open to the thought of relocating, but location is important to me.

This is interesting because this exact situation came up recently for me. I actually decided to turn it down, because even though the pay raise was substantial, I didn't like anyone at that new location. I'd much rather work at my current place around people I like. Hell, my boss here is pretty awesome too, and it's within walking distance from home to boot!
