I prefer reading a series because I grow more emotionally attached to the characters

I don't really read too many books, but I did read through the whole Harry Potter Series, waiting for each new book to come out when it was still being released, and I had other standalone books which I used to read at school like "The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas" (which is a book from a perspective of a German kid who's father worked at a Concentration camp, but yh there is a movie on it (got to watch it with school as a reward for having great assignments on it), and man is it a sad one). I haven't read many book that don't have a movie counterpart to it though, but in that case I enjoy both types, as long as the series stays interesting and is well put together throughout (saying Harry Potter is a good example saying the world it is set in gave it a lot of potential). I don't think I've read a good hidden gem but sadly like I said I don't read books much, just an occasional one from time to time, the last one I read was a standalone book and it was pretty heart-tugging.

It depends on how well the story and characters develop and if it grabs my interests. I don't lean towards ether when reading.

Writing wise, I've yet to reach that point.
