I've been eagerly awaiting a chance to buy tickets for Your Name, but this draws my attention to the fact that the Sword Art Online movie was yesterday! I MISSED IT! I bought tickets for it two months in advance and missed it... I'm so sad... I never go out and yet was going to do so to support them. This feels terrible...

EDIT: The next day turned into a good day. My theater did an unplanned second screening of the SAO movie. I got to see it after all (albeit having bought two tickets to see it once because of the first miss). I'll need to plan better for Your Name.

I already own all of these, (Yes, I even imported "She and Her Cat" since the Japanese release has subtitles.) so I'll be skipping these. When "Your Name" is released I'll get that one too cause Shinkai is AWESOMENESS ON A STICK! (Or should I say, "AWESOMENESS ON A DISC?!")

All the previous Shinkai weekends have been available more or less world wide, so why not this time?

What a shame, fortunelly I've watched all of them in previous Shinkai's weekends here in Crunchy (I would have loved to watch them again though u_u). But I'll be really mad if you add "Your name" only for the US u_u, I don't want to pirate it

Given that Funimation is handling the US screenings and licensed it for home video, I doubt CR will have it:

Seems likely to be that the contract that those were one under expired, and these were the rights available at present. Given the way that the most recent Shinkai event was different from the previous ones, it might have expired before the most recent previous event.

I actually clicked on this news with a glimmer of hope ... but was not surprised when it turned out they are all blocked out in Asia, since with the massive hit "In Our Name" was in Asia. it's no surprise that somebody has snatched up the rights to all of his earlier work.

Even though it wouldn't help me, it would have been nice if they could have got Worldwide ex-Asia rights for all four. Then they could call it "Half-Global Skinkai Weekend".

Actually maps don't help ... regions in contracts mean whatever the contract says they mean. If Funimation got the right to do a limited release of Shinkai's earlier work to support the theatrical release, with the sub coming to Crunchyroll under the cross-distribution deal ... then those rights are exactly as broad or as narrow as the contract says.

If the contract says "US" for the streaming rights to support promotion of the new film, despite the film having a US+Canadian theatrical run from Funimation ... then those are the rights available.

I remember one anime that was co-produced by Japanese and French companies, and Canada was blocked on Crunchyroll because the French company had Canadian rights ... because it had gone into the deal in return for worldwide rights to French speaking countries, and that included Canada.

If your in Canada use Cineplex (or whatever large theater chain is near you) to find movie show times. Much better I find then their 'offical' website.

Is it in any way possible to turn this kind of clickbait into more honest captions that mention the regions up front christiecleu? I know I would appreciate it. It was good for a while but it's been slipping again lately...
