I tear up especially when some strongly constructed character who you love gets separated/killed/lost.
Take Isla (my avatar), it's not really a big spoiler since its brought up a lot during the series an the nature of what she is, but man I found her too lovable that when the time came, I couldn't not cry, listening to the music which goes on at teh end of that episode just makes me think of the scene and cry like a baby every time. Had to remedy it by getting the song and listening to it on repeat for a few hours or so as a cure. The anime itself "Plastic Memories" could a been expanded on, but the romantic part to it just made it for me instead.

I haven't watched Clannad yet but I plan to, the feels are gonna be great.

I was tearing up earlier today when I was reading Berserk. First time I can recall feeling that strongly over a book.

I secretly have a thing for shonen trope 'break the odds' anime/manga and it's so predictable that I don't know why.

I think I show more emotions when reading light novels or watching anime, but not really when reading manga. I know its weird but I just think light novels are better at conveying the emotions with good usage of words. Also, anime is really good at conveying emotions through voice acting, music, and visuals. However for me manga falls a little short in for both ways to convey emotions. However there are exceptions to this rule, I just cry more with light novels or anime.

Why would you watch anime if you didn't feel any kind of emotion from it?

Exactly! Emotional engagement is what makes a good escape.

If a show just feels "meh" or lukewarm then it's time for me to drop it.

OF COURSE! I get butterflies, I laugh, I cry, I get annoyed. I get the same emotions as though I'm watching instead of reading.

If a good writer creates a good story or even just a bad story with characters easy to attach myself to then yes "emo music of the soul" truly happens .
