That is an understatement, a lot of american woman do that. The thing is, in some cases the men know why they are with them. But do not care because it just means having this hot chick to show off. The idea of morals isn't even applicable at this point.
I agree. So I guess, in hindsight, that two people who are in a relationship like this are both shallow and selfish because their own motives for being together are completely vain and self-centred. It becomes a quid pro quo setup instead of an actualy healthy relationship.

It seems like everyone here is only considering this as a love-relationship situation. Not everyone in a situation like that is selfish, shallow, or bad.
People have sugar daddies/sugar mamas that already understand the circumstance. In this case, the sugar daddy/mama supplies the funds, assets, or social status/network that the sugar baby needs, while the baby provides companionship or just someone to spend time with. It is a win-win situation for both.
Other relationships based on money/status are not always shady or conniving. Arranged/Pre-arranged unions are based on the expansion of an empire or business, or evolution in finances/status, while creating security for each person involved. Both parties have agreed to the situation, and depending on the agreements, are allowed to live their lives as they please, relationship-wise included.
You can "be with someone" for the money and not be in a relationship. And just because you are in a "normal" relationship based on "love" doesn't mean it makes you a nicer or better person anyway.
