I agree that there seem to be a few more character categories than need be, but I prefer Lorreen's suggestion of removing "most adorable/cutest" rather than best non-human.

I would also put forward removing "worst of Winter 2017" - seems like an odd pick for an award thread, and I feel like "biggest disappointment" covers it.

I hope to see a clean sweep for the best anime of the season - Urara Meirochou, Kemono Friends, and Rakugo in that order. That's right, I said it.

Best adventure, best sci-fi, best mystery, best overall cast - it's all Kemono Friends

While I could agree with getting rid of "Worst" if you're looking to get rid of categories, there's no way that "Disappointment" covers the same ground.

Disappointment implies you had hope for something but that it just didn't, for whatever reason, fulfill those desires. Maybe it was a great series that stumbled in the last few episodes. Maybe it was a second season to a show you loved that just didn't recapture that same magic. Maybe it was a show with great characters that were stuck with a crappy story or awful art. Etc. In fact, you may actually still consider a Disappointment to be a really solid or enjoyable show, it just didn't hit the heights you wanted or expected it to.

Worst implies, well, the worst. It was just straight up bad. You had no particular belief it would be good and it wasn't.

Collapse Sci Fi and Fantasy into one category.

I am very much against this.
Scifi and fantasy can overlap to a degree, but they are still their own categories. I would not want to have a hard scifi (The Martian) in the same category as a sword and sorcery fantasy (Lord of the Rings). They explore very different concepts.

I strongly agree with Loki on this one.

You're totally right. I'm sorry - I don't know what I was thinking there.

Perhaps what I was referring to when I said "worst covers it" was a general feeling of negativity in an otherwise positive awards thread - but that doesn't come across at all and there's no way anyone could have gathered that from my post. My mistake.

Or maybe I just grouped them together, since even "biggest disappointment" is kind of an odd inclusion to me. But like I said - no idea what I was thinking there.

Instead, let me just link the response I left in the previous Spring thread, as that's probably clearer.

I agree that Worst is different than Disappointment, so if people want to go with that , then I say fine. Personally, I'd like to get rid of the "worst" category though, but that's just a personal preference as I think it's odd to include negativity into an awards ceremony. You might say that Biggest Disappointment is also negative, but it doesn't have to be. A show can be disappointing without being bad, whereas Worst is just purely negative. But again, that's personal preference, and I suspect most people will want to keep Worst.

First time for one of these Awards thingys!

I think you need to look at a season first to remove stuff. non-human is an odd one because it can cover all most all genres that happens to have a non-human in it. Also you have to weigh is it fair to have a lead in a show, not good enough to win best lead, but wins best non-human just because they happen to be one? I think the same goes for adorable/cute.

The other side of the coin is. This isnt a stodgy awards show like the oscurs is it? Maybe those catagorys should stay to add a bit of fun to it and give characters whos shows might of mostly stank a chance to show that at least they didnt stink.

Since I havnt really done this its hard for me to say what to remove. I will say I do not think supporting caracters should go. The side characters work hard for your attention also and in some shows, really carry the leads to the end.

This was probably one of the hardest seasons to actually pick an AOTS. It came down to Demi, ACCA, Kobayashi, and Urara, it wasn't easy picking one since I loved and adored each of these shows. Ultimately I did pick Demi-Chan wa Kataritai as my personal AOTS.

I was going to write more, but I got lazy soooooooooooooooooooooooo see you in Spring 2017.

Ooh, we're adding a seiyu category? That's a first. My pick for male seiyu is rather obvious, but the female one will be tricky. I hope Aoi Yuuki and Yuu Kobayashi get recognition. Those two are incredibly prolific this season:

(Aoi Yuuki)
Tanya - Youjo Senki
Lotta - ACCA
Matsuko - Akiba's Trip
Kunagisa - Kubikiri Cycle
Misora - Youkai Watch
Mieru - Yu☆Gi☆Oh! Arc-V

(Yuu Kobayashi)
Konatsu - Rakugo
Miss X - Tiger Mask
Upa - Nanbaka
Ibima - Schoolgirl Strikers
Tsuchinoko - Kemono Friends
Komurasaki - Beyblade Burst
Demouse - Duel Masters VSRF
Sachan - Not caught up with Gintama. Unsure if she's featured this season

Probably missing some roles.

As I see it, non-human characters are prevalent enough in anime that it wouldn't often be the the case that one would win "just because they happen to be [non-human]." We don't have a "Best Lead" category. We have a Best Male Character and Best Female Character.

A reason that I like having a "non-human" category, is because while there are cases where where non-humans would also be likely candidates for best male or best female, some of them just don't fit closely enough into those gendered types that they'd have much of a shot at them even if they were a great character. For example, there are often characters like Madoka Magica's Kyubey, or Gintama's Sadaharu or Elizabeth, or Muco from Lovely Muco, or the penguins from Penguindrum... in some cases people probably can and do associate them as male or female either because it's actually stated in the show, or suggested in the way the character is voiced or presented, so they could be chosen for Best Male or Female, but they still wouldn't usually be what folks thought of when they are considering characters for those spots.
