Last year, our old laptop stopped working. After being bored out of my mind and saddened by the fact that I can't go online anymore, I realized, after going to the mall, that I can just save up enough money for a laptop. It took months and the help of a cousin before I got the laptop I have now.

Anyways, in the before buying one, my dad suggested I just look around first before buying to see which I might want or can afford and some of the salespeople actually asked me/said 'Why are you buying a laptop? Buy a smartphone instead!' *hands me a flyer*

Then when I was so close to buying a laptop, my mom asked 'Are you sure you don't want to just buy a smartphone? It seems cheaper...'

Then after buying a laptop and having trouble connecting online, my brother kept shoving his smartphone in my face saying 'If you have a phone, you can connect almost anywhere and play some games! (he's talking about the otoge I like so much)'.

I don't regret my laptop though. It's got bigger screen and I'm more comfortable with using a mouse (It tried using a smartphone and I keep accidentally clicking stuff as I scroll down). Plus, keyboard.

So, question: if you've got money for either a laptop or a smartphone, which one would you buy and why?

It depends on what you're going to use it for. I like using both.

But I'll choose a Smartphone because of the convenience.

I can carry the internet, my contacts, and a camera all in my pocket.

Laptop is too big to walk around with it all day, now our cellphones can give us access to almost everything the PC can.

laptop is more convenient if you want to be productive. trying to work on office documents in a tiny screen doesn't seem very comfortable.
besides, smartphones are limited by storage capacity - the most expensive smartphones come with 256gb. you might be able to use an external 256gb sd card if you're lucky, and i don't think they'd be able to run an external hd - or at least i don't think so, due to the amount of power needed to power them. a laptop can be bought for cheaper with 1 - 2 tb with ready support for external 3-4tb+ external hds.

Laptop all the way, bigger screen, better keyboard, this is not even a question for me. As namealreadytaken said, if you need to do anything productive, a computer is definitely more efficient than any touch screen.

If I had to choose, i'd say laptop over the smartphone mostly because if I wanted to do anything even relatively productive other than scroll on sites i'd need that.

Laptop. There's just so much more you can do with it.
I have one of each though. I'm just a tablet away from the holy trinity.

I personally would go for a laptop as it has a lot more functionality over an iPhone/Android. You will get more out of it in comparison to a phone.

I prefer using my laptop, but I use my phone more because it's always near me.

Definitely laptop if I had the environment to choose either. But if I was out and about, I would choose smartphone in some situations.
